(Dan Tri) - When restored and embellished, the Temple of Literature and the Temple of Martial Arts will, together with Thien Mu Pagoda, create an important and complete complex of relics in the southwest of Hue Citadel.
Located in the southwest of Hue Citadel, there are two adjacent relic clusters: Van Mieu and Vo Mieu, now located in the administrative boundary of Huong Ho ward (Hue city, Thua Thien Hue province). These are two important institutions, contributing to the architectural appearance and rich cultural and ritual activities of the Nguyen Dynasty in Hue Citadel. Compared to the Temple of Literature, which has become ruins over time, many important architectural works are preserved at the Temple of Literature. According to historical documents, the Temple of Literature, also known as the Temple of Literature, was built in 1808 under the reign of King Gia Long. When intact, there were nearly 20 large works, such as: Temple of Literature (temple), Dong Vu, Tay Vu, Than Tru, Than Kho, Huu Van Duong, Duy Le Duong, Tho Cong house, Dai Thanh Mon, Van Mieu Mon, Duc Mon, Linh Tinh Mon, La Thanh, King's Wharf... Looking inside from Dai Thanh Mon Gate, right in the middle is the great Confucius shrine called Dai Thanh Dien (now only traces remain). This is the important architecture of the Temple of Literature, the whole is built on a high foundation, about 32m long, 25m wide. On both sides in front of Dai Thanh Palace, there are two houses facing each other, Dong Vu and Tay Vu, both with seven rooms. Inside the Dong Vu and Tay Vu houses, there are 32 steles engraved with the names of 293 Nguyen Dynasty doctors, starting from the first examination in the 3rd year of Minh Mang (1822) to the last examination in the 4th year of Khai Dinh (1919). In front of the temple yard, there are two stele houses, inside there are two steles engraved with the inscriptions of King Minh Mang and King Thieu Tri, which are still quite intact.
The ancient beauty remains in the Temple of Literature relic site on the banks of the poetic Huong River in Hue. Next to the Temple of Literature is the Temple of Martial Arts, built in 1835 under the reign of King Minh Mang. According to Dr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Thua Thien Hue province, the structure of the Temple of Martial Arts is quite simple, consisting of a main temple built in the style of a double house "trung luong trung thiem" with two parts, Tien Doanh and Chinh Doanh. After nearly 190 years since its construction, due to historical changes, natural disasters and wars, the Temple of Martial Arts has now become a ruin, the architectural works have completely disappeared, including the surrounding wall; in the area of the Temple of Martial Arts, there are only a few Vo Cong and Tien Si Vo steles remaining, gathered together in one place. In the space of Vo Mieu, there is a temple to worship the famous general Tran Hung Dao, the famous generals who founded the country of Lord Nguyen and the Nguyen Dynasty (before 1802), and at the same time record the names of famous generals who made military achievements during the independent Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1884). The famous generals chosen by King Minh Mang to worship were those who had clear and complete achievements before and after, worthy of being examples for future generations. Dr. Phan Thanh Hai stated that although there are not many architectural traces and relics of the Vo Mieu left in the field, based on cultural documents, historical books and archaeological excavations, we can completely restore and fundamentally revive the appearance of this relic. The Vo Mieu of the Nguyen Dynasty was restored to create an important and complete relic complex in the southwest of the Imperial City, thereby promoting the conservation, exploitation and promotion of its value effectively.
