The workshop was organized by the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention and Control, Ministry of Public Security in coordination with the Women's Union of the Ministry of Public Security and the Office of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women in Vietnam (UN Women).
The workshop discussed cyber threats to women and girls and specific approaches to equipping them with the knowledge and self-defense skills needed to respond effectively to cyber threats.
With the theme "Women, Peace and Cybersecurity - Raising awareness and capacity for women and girls in responding to challenges in cyberspace", the Workshop also marked the beginning of the implementation of Vietnam's first National Action Plan (NAP) on Women, Peace and Security (WPS).
One of the tasks and solutions proposed by NAP is to “Improve the effectiveness of prevention and response to gender-based violence, including technology-facilitated violence, meeting specific needs and promoting meaningful participation of women in addressing the consequences of war and in preventing, controlling, handling and responding to incidents, disasters and non-traditional security challenges”. Accordingly, the Workshop pioneered the implementation of NAP activity number II.2.e: “Improving awareness and capacity for women and girls in responding to challenges in cyberspace”.
Attending the workshop were leaders of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, the Department of Party and Political Affairs, Ninh Binh Provincial Police, representatives of functional units under the Ministry of Public Security; representatives of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union, the Women's Union of the Ministry of Public Security, the Women's Unions of 24 northern provinces and cities and representatives of departments, branches and sectors of Ninh Binh province.
Notably, experts from the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, representatives of the Women's Union of the Ministry of Public Security and UN Women also participated in a discussion and dialogue with officials, teachers and students of Luong Van Tuy High School for the Gifted, Ninh Binh Province, promoting the exchange of critical views on these urgent issues.

Speaking at the workshop, Ms. Gaelle Demolis, Programme and Policy Expert on Governance, Peace and Security, UN Women Asia-Pacific Regional Office, stated that the challenges in cyberspace for women and girls are increasing in the process of strong development of the digital ecosystem today. Cybercrime, cyberattacks, harassment and online violence have been and are posing constant threats to individuals, organizations and even to the peace and stable development of countries.
“The need to protect vulnerable groups, especially women and girls, is becoming more urgent and demanding,” Ms. Gaelle Demolis emphasized.

Highlighting the purpose of the event, Lieutenant Colonel Trieu Manh Tung, Deputy Director of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention and Control, Ministry of Public Security, assessed that the Workshop is one of the practical actions to continue implementing the Ministry of Public Security's Plan on deploying the Campaign "Propaganda, fighting and preventing criminal activities in cyberspace" under the direction of the Prime Minister on mobilizing the combined strength of the entire political system, sectors, levels, organizations, businesses, and people to fight and repel criminal activities in cyberspace.
"The workshop facilitated a dialogue between leaders, cybersecurity experts, leaders of local Party committees and authorities, leaders and officials of the Women's Union at all levels and propagandists, thereby not only raising awareness and capacity for women and girls to respond to challenges in cyberspace but also building and replicating models and good practices in supporting women to respond to challenges in cyberspace," said Lieutenant Colonel Trieu Manh Tung.
Sharing the same view, Major General Ngo Hoai Thu, Deputy Director of the Department of Party and Political Affairs of the Ministry of Public Security, Head of the Women's Committee of the People's Public Security, believes that with the propaganda and practical guidance of propagandists of the Vietnam Women's Union at all levels, the significance and effectiveness of this Workshop will continue to be extended and widely spread, especially in the awareness of students.
Through UN Women, the governments of Canada, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Australia and the Republic of Korea supported the workshop.
