The launching ceremony took place in Da Bac district, Hoa Binh province. This is the third time the survey has been launched to collect information on the socio-economic situation of 53 ethnic minorities (the previous two surveys were held in 2015 and 2019). The launching ceremony will start from July 1 to August 15, jointly organized by the Ethnic Committee and the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Sharing with TG&VN reporters on the sidelines of the launch ceremony, the UNFPA Representative said that the launch ceremony was attended by government agencies from the central to local levels such as the Ethnic Committee, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the General Statistics Office and representatives of Hoa Binh province. This is a strong support and endorsement for this survey.
"At the launching ceremony, we heard the voices of investigators; representatives of village elders, village chiefs, and prestigious people in Tu Ly commune, Da Bac district, Hoa Binh province. They not only showed their support for the investigations but also contributed to the diversity of ethnic minority voices for our investigation," he said.
Mr. Matt Jackson said that the results obtained from the survey will help us know the differences between ethnic minority groups, especially related to access to basic services, employment and living standards.
These are important data that help monitor and evaluate the progress of implementing Government policies, and are also the basis for issuing policy decisions to reduce the disadvantages that ethnic minority groups are facing.
He informed that UNFPA provides technical support to the General Statistics Office to conduct surveys and collect information on the socio-economic situation of 53 ethnic minorities in Vietnam.
According to UN research, the most vulnerable people, often left behind, are those who are not included in surveys and statistics. Therefore, in this survey, UNFPA hopes to ensure the representation of ethnic minorities in Vietnam.
In a specific area, the UNFPA Representative said that the fund is interested in the reproductive health of ethnic minority women in Vietnam. Through statistics, UNFPA knows that ethnic minority women in Vietnam have a mortality rate 3 to 4 times higher than that of the Kinh people.
So the fund wants to collect data on whether ethnic minority women's use of antenatal care services or access to health facilities has improved?
Mr. Matt Jackson emphasized: "Our expectation is that households participating in the surveys will openly and honestly share information about their households with the investigators.
In this investigation, investigators will use new technologies with two goals: Ensuring absolute privacy, safety, and information security and ensuring the most comprehensive information collection formula possible to best support the process of issuing future policies.
I look forward to hearing the results of this investigation."
