The Ukrainian air force has successfully destroyed another strategic road bridge over the Seym River in Russia’s Kursk region, the commander of Ukrainian forces said Sunday, limiting the logistical capabilities of a group of Russian forces fighting to hold back Ukrainian forces.

Kyiv forces said they had taken control of more than 80 settlements in an area of 1,150 square kilometers in Kursk since launching a surprise cross-border offensive on August 6.

On his Telegram channel, Mykola Oleshchuk wrote: "In the direction of Kursk, another bridge was destroyed! The Ukrainian Air Force continues to disrupt the enemy's logistical capabilities with precision airstrikes, which significantly affects the course of the operation."

He posted a video showing smoke rising from an explosion on the bridge and a section of it destroyed. Reuters could not independently verify the incident or the fighting situation in Kursk.

"Our operation in Kursk is still having a significant impact on the Russian military and government, as well as the Russian defense industry and economy," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in his evening televised address.

He thanked the Ukrainian forces participating in the operation in Kursk as well as on the eastern front, and asked the allies to speed up the delivery of promised military aid.

"Regarding aid from allies – it needs to be accelerated, we urge our friends. War has no holidays."

Russia considers this campaign a serious provocation and pledges to respond with an "adequate response", after more than 2 years and 6 months of fighting since launching a special operation in Ukraine.

The attack on the road bridge was the second attack carried out by Ukraine since Friday.
