Australia supports Vietnam with 3 million dollars, relief goods have arrived in Hanoi

On the evening of September 11, the Australian Embassy in Vietnam announced that the country would provide Vietnam with an initial aid package worth 3 million AUD (Australian dollars). The first batch of emergency relief supplies was also delivered on September 11.

In a statement on the evening of September 11, the Australian Embassy confirmed that the above-mentioned AUD 3 million aid is only initial. This aid includes humanitarian assistance efforts, emergency relief supplies and other essential services to respond to the damage caused by storm No. 3 in the northern provinces of Vietnam.

"Support Vietnam in any way possible"

Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Andrew Goledzinowski, affirmed that his country will support Vietnam "in any way possible".

“We are pleased that we have been able to quickly mobilize support to the worst-hit areas, and hope this will alleviate some of the immediate pressures on families and communities. We know there is a long way to go and we stand with Vietnam at this difficult time,” he said.

Also in the announcement, the Australian Embassy expressed its deepest condolences to the Government and people of Vietnam for the losses caused by natural disasters .

“We express our deepest sympathies to the families of those who have lost their loved ones or are missing. Australia appreciates the effective leadership of the Government of Vietnam in coordinating relief and emergency response activities in the affected areas.

At the same time, we are ready to support Vietnam in the process of overcoming the consequences, rebuilding affected areas and are ready to support Vietnam in the recovery and reconstruction process," the Australian side affirmed.

The Australian Embassy also said Australia had delivered the first batch of emergency relief supplies to Hanoi today.

It is known that the flight carrying this relief shipment landed at Noi Bai airport at 6:20 p.m. today. The aid includes 264 personal hygiene items, 120 kitchen utensils, 600 blankets, 264 home repair tools, 600 sleeping mats, 522 tarpaulins and 360 mosquito nets.

On the evening of September 11, the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that after receiving Australian aid goods at Noi Bai airport, the unit coordinated transportation and handover to Yen Bai province to organize distribution to affected people.

The representative of Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee receiving this shipment was Ms. Vu Thi Hien Hanh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, who was also present at Noi Bai airport to witness the handover ceremony from Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski.

Present at the foot of the plane transporting the relief goods, Vice President Vu Thi Hien Hanh said she was truly moved by Australia's aid shipment to Vietnam.

"We are very touched because these are very necessary items for Yen Bai people at the present time, after having just experienced a long period of flooding" - Ms. Vu Thi Hien Hanh told Ambassador Andrew Goledzinowski.

Ambassador Andrew Goledzinowski stressed that Australia is a friend of Vietnam. According to him, the donations today are the wish of the Australian Government and people to support Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters.

Many international organizations pledge emergency aid to people affected by Typhoon Yagi

Previously, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development contacted and received commitments from many international organizations to provide emergency relief to people affected by storm No. 3. Specifically, the ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Center) sent 2,002 household kits including plastic buckets, water bags, towels, T-shirts, mosquito nets, candles, and FM radios. 1,008 home repair kits including ropes, hand saws, metal nails, shovels, hoes, scissors, corner nails, ties, and hammers. 1,015 kitchen kits including pots, bowls, plates, knives, spoons. Forks, cups, and wooden ladles. In addition, 3,031 personal hygiene kits including laundry detergent, sanitary napkins, handkerchiefs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, and shampoo. It is expected that the AHA Centre's aid will be delivered to Noi Bai airport around September 13-14. On the Japanese side, JICA will support 40 portable water purifiers, including pump filters, ceramic filters with a filtration speed of 4 liters/minute, and a maximum filtration capacity of 100,000 liters. Along with that are 200 multi-purpose HDPE plastic tarpaulins measuring 50x4m. It is expected that JICA's aid will be delivered to Noi Bai airport around September 16 or 17.
