The project "Selection and restoration of Phan Rang garlic varieties" was implemented with the provincial Science and Technology (S&T) career fund, chaired by Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry from November 2018 and was accepted in February 2023. Through the research results, the project has collected 150 kg of Phan Rang garlic varieties, through the selection and restoration of 7 varieties in areas inside and outside the province. In order to preserve and expand the source of varieties, the Department of Science and Technology proposed and recommended the Provincial People's Committee to agree in principle to preserve the garlic seed source at Thai An Agricultural Service Cooperative, Vinh Hai Commune (Ninh Hai) and Nha Ho Cotton Research and Agricultural Development Institute.

Concluding the meeting, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that this is a topic of scientific and practical value, and requested the Department of Science and Technology to take the lead in coordinating with relevant units to organize the appraisal of detailed budget estimates for the implementation of garlic seed preservation at proposed locations, ensuring quality; urgently review and organize pilot planting in some areas, then evaluate the effectiveness to serve as a basis for mass production expansion. At the same time, there should be solutions to support capital and transfer scientific and technological processes to people participating in production.
