On November 8, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) announced the list of 23 players for the national team during the FIFA Days in November 2024. Head coach Ishii Masatada decided to eliminate more than 10 key players including Chanathip Songkrasin, Supachok Sarachat, Supachai Jaided, Charoensak Wongkorn, Jonatharn Khemdee, Watawat Khammai, Teerasil Dangda, Teerathorn Bunmathan, Sarach Yooyen, Sasalak Weerathep.
Of the remaining 23 players, there are 5 new recruits: Saringkar Promsupa, Thitathorn Aksornsri, Chisanupong Chote, Seksan Ratree and Phanphan Praphan. This is an opportunity for them to demonstrate their abilities to have a chance to participate in the AFF Cup 2024 with the Thai team.
Theerathon Bunmathan is not in the Thai national team.
Part of the reason why many players are absent is because Thailand only plays against two weak teams, Laos and Lebanon. The Thai team has the right to experiment with many new players instead of creating conditions for many veterans.
In the middle of the week, players like Theerathon Bunmathan, Sasalak Haiprakorn, Supachai and Chananthip all played in the 2024/2025 Asian Cup. The joy did not belong to the Thai people. Sasalak's red card in the first half caused Buriram United to suffer a heavy 0-5 defeat against Yokohama F. Marinos away.
A few months ago, there was information that Theerathon Bunmathan would refuse to play in the AFF Cup and only play in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. However, no official announcement has been made. Meanwhile, Sarach Yooyen has just returned home after a trip abroad to Renofa Yamaguchi. Coach Ishii left Yooyen out because he was not in good form.
At the AFF Cup 2024, the Thai team is in the same group with Malaysia, Cambodia, Timor Leste and Singapore. This group is quite easy and Thailand expects to enter the semi-finals as the top team.
