Despite leaving many key players behind, Vietnam still defeated Uzbekistan 3-0 in the second round of Group C of the 2023 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship.
Uzbekistan is currently ranked 75th in the world , rated much lower than Vietnam. Therefore, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet let his key players rest after the difficult comeback against Korea.
With a squad consisting of many players who had little chance to compete before, Vietnam still won easily after less than an hour with scores of 25-11, 25-12 and 25-9.

In the remaining match, South Korea continued to struggle, taking five sets to defeat Taiwan. This development gives Vietnam an advantage over Taiwan in terms of physical strength when they meet in the decisive match tomorrow, September 1.
The tournament format stipulates that a 3-0 or 3-1 match results in three points for the winning team and zero points for the losing team. A 3-2 match results in two points for the winning team and one point for the losing team. After two matches, Vietnam leads Group C with five points, followed by Taiwan (four points) and South Korea (three points).
Vietnam only needs to beat Taiwan by any score to secure the top spot in the group, thereby having a great chance of entering the group of four strongest teams. In the most recent confrontation at the AVC Challenge Cup 2023, Vietnam beat Taiwan 3-0.
The 2023 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship will be held in Thailand from August 30 to September 6 with 14 participating teams. After 20 times of organization, China leads with 13 championships, followed by Japan (5) and Thailand (2). Vietnam's best achievement in the tournament is two times coming in fifth place in 2015 and 2017.
