That was the information given at the Conference to honor good and studious girls in typical families that have well implemented the Population policy on the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child October 11, 2023, held on October 7 at the Sai Dong Ward Cultural House, Long Bien District People's Committee.

On behalf of the standing agency of Long Bien District Medical Center, Deputy Director of the District Medical Center Nguyen Khac Thuy reported on the current situation and solutions to reduce the gender imbalance at birth in Long Bien District. According to statistics, the sex ratio at birth in Long Bien District from 2009 to 2018 increased from 95 boys/100 girls to 113 boys/100 girls, especially the trend of choosing the sex of boys is increasing in the third birth and above, ranging from 143 - 160 boys/100 girls. In the first 9 months of 2023, the sex ratio at birth in Long Bien District was 107 boys/100 girls. This is a very encouraging sign, however, there are still some wards with alarming differences, such as Viet Hung: 128 boys/100 girls; Ngoc Lam: 120 boys/100 girls; Thach Ban: 118 boys/100 girls; Ngoc Thuy: 111 boys/100 girls.
At the conference, delegates had the opportunity to meet and exchange with good and studious girls and couples who have only daughters and are good at business, raising good and studious children. They shared their experiences in raising children and striving to develop the family economy. Especially, they shared their sincere confidences when they had to face and overcome prejudices and outdated views such as the preference for boys over girls of those around them. The good and studious girls in typical families that have well implemented the Population Policy honored at the conference are vivid evidence, real examples, real deeds enough to affirm that not only having a son brings happiness, but more importantly, having healthy, obedient children who are successful in their studies.
Ms. Dinh Thi Thu Huong - Standing Committee Member, Vice Chairman of Long Bien District People's Committee presented gifts and rewards to good-natured and studious girls in exemplary families that have well implemented the Population Policy in 2023.
Speaking at the conference, Ms. Dinh Thi Thu Huong - Standing Committee Member, Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee - Head of the Steering Committee for Primary Health Care and Population of Long Bien District emphasized that in recent years, the Population - Family Planning (DS-KHHGĐ) work of Long Bien District has always received the attention, leadership and direction of Party committees and authorities at all levels, the synchronous participation and responsibility of departments, branches and organizations, therefore, the district has maintained the replacement fertility rate and achieved many important results in the field of Population. To continue to promote the achieved results and strive to complete the plan targets in 2023 and the following years, especially gradually reducing the gender imbalance at birth, Long Bien District will continue to innovate the content and forms of communication and education suitable for each subject. In addition, it is necessary to strengthen inspection of medical facilities, strictly prohibit and severely handle facilities providing services of fetal sex selection in any form; promptly encourage and commend good-natured, studious girls in exemplary families that effectively implement the annual Population - Family Planning policy...
On this occasion, the People's Committee of Long Bien district presented gifts to commend and reward 80 good and studious girls in exemplary families who have well implemented the Population Policy in 2023.
