(Fatherland) - On November 27, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Cinematography successfully held its second term Congress (2024 - 2029). Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long attended the Congress.
Also attending the Congress were Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department Dinh Thi Mai; Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong; representatives of leaders of departments, ministries, branches, specialized organizations of literature and arts, and many filmmakers across the country.

Speaking at the opening of the Congress, Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Vietnam Film Promotion and Development Association (VFDA) said that over the past 5 years, with the tireless efforts and solidarity of the VFDA Executive Board and all members, the attention and direction of the Party and State leaders, the facilitation of departments, ministries and localities, the support of partners and accompanying units, VFDA has achieved many good results, from organizing major film events to promoting international cooperation in film, associated with promoting the image of Vietnam, contributing to tourism development.

In fact, the Association founded and coordinated with the People's Committee of Da Nang City to successfully organize the Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF). The film festival can be considered a key activity of the Association, stemming from the determination to "realize" as soon as possible the new regulation in the 2022 Cinema Law, which is to allow professional associations and localities to organize film festivals when qualified. The goal of DANAFF is to honor outstanding cinematographic works, rich in humanistic values, with new discoveries and unique artistic expressions; discover and encourage new talents of Vietnamese cinema and the Asia-Pacific region; introduce selected Vietnamese cinematographic works to the international community and bring the quintessence of regional and world cinema to Vietnam; promote the image and culture of Vietnam in general, Da Nang City in particular, promote international cooperation, contribute to the development of the film industry associated with the development of tourism and related economic sectors. To date, DANAFF is the first and only film festival in Vietnam that is held annually, aiming towards international standards in a professional manner.

Notably, the Association has initiated, successfully developed and piloted the Production Attraction Index (PAI). This is a tool to support localities in attracting international film crews, connecting film development with tourism and related service and economic sectors. The Association has become an effective bridge between filmmakers and localities welcoming film crews. 10 provinces and cities have participated in the PAI index in 2023 and Phu Yen is the leading locality in the Film Attraction Index. At the same time as announcing the PAI, the website www.vietnamfilmproduction.vn was launched, creating a premise for inviting international filmmakers to the favorable filmmaking environment in Vietnam.
Also in its first term, the Association has organized a series of important seminars and workshops, creating a forum for dialogue between Vietnamese and international filmmakers, artists, and experts. The Association has also actively brought Vietnamese cinema to the world through major events such as the Busan International Film Festival, the Tokyo International Film Festival, etc. In addition, the Association has many activities contributing to the development of young talents and community initiatives, constantly expanding the strategic cooperation network with localities, creating a premise for sustainable development for the Vietnamese film and cultural industry. With the above positive contributions, the Association has been awarded 6 Certificates of Merit by the Central Foreign Affairs Committee and a number of provinces and cities for collectives and individuals.

At the Congress, delegates unanimously approved the report on the performance of the Executive Committee for the first term (2019-2024) and the direction for the second term (2024-2029). Many presentations with the most passionate opinions were frankly shared by delegates at the Congress.
Speaking at the Congress, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong highly appreciated the Association's initiative and creativity in building and promoting the film industry in Vietnam.
The Association has actively coordinated with agencies, organizations, and localities to develop policies to support film activities, build infrastructure, and create a favorable environment for film production activities. In particular, the Association's support in connecting producers and directors with localities has contributed significantly to attracting domestic investment and connecting with foreign partners for film production activities, providing services for using filming locations in Vietnam. The development of cinema in localities and provinces across the country through many activities and the development of practical policies is a highlight that the Association has focused on and initially achieved success. Thanks to that, not only major cities but also provinces have had the opportunity to participate in the overall development of the film industry, contributing to building a comprehensive and diverse film industry.
According to the Deputy Minister, one of the outstanding achievements of the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Cinematography is the successful organization of the Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF) and during the first term of the Association, DANAFF was organized twice. This is not only an important event of the Vietnamese cinema industry but also a testament to the Association's efforts and dedication in bringing Vietnamese cinema to integrate regionally and internationally.
The Deputy Minister also acknowledged and appreciated the Association's efforts in promoting Vietnamese cinema to the world.

The Association has organized and participated in many events such as famous international film festivals around the world, cultural exchange forums. These activities not only help bring Vietnamese cinema works, Vietnamese cinema faces closer to international friends but also introduce the image of the country, people, and culture of Vietnam with unique identity.
"The results that the Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association has achieved in the past term are clear evidence of the sense of responsibility, solidarity, and enthusiasm of all members, with the Association's President as the leader. I believe that, with the solid foundation that has been built, on the threshold of a new term, the Association will continue to promote the strengths of the past term to work with the film industry management agencies, artists, and film activists to bring Vietnamese cinema further on the path of integration and sustainable development" - Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong commented.
The opinions at the Congress of Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen The Ky, Chairman of the Central Council for Literature and Art Theory and Criticism; Director, People's Artist Dang Nhat Minh, Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son, Standing Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education... all emphasized that in the past term, the Association has demonstrated the role of a dynamic, creative, and strongly operating social-professional organization. The Association has achieved many remarkable results, creating a solid foundation to gradually affirm its position and prestige; proactively and creatively building and promoting the film industry in Vietnam. Hopefully, in the coming time, the Association will continue to promote the achievements, have more diverse, attractive, and effective activities to meet the requirements and expectations of filmmakers and film lovers.
On behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong presented the Certificate of Merit of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to the Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association and Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Association for their achievements in organizing and promoting the Vietnamese cinema brand in the period 2019-2024.
The Congress also unanimously elected Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan as President of VFDA for the second term (2024 - 2029), and elected 7 Vice Presidents of the Association. The Executive Committee of the Association for the second term consists of 25 members, 15 Standing Committee members. Of which, Major General Do Trieu Phong, Director of the Department of Communications of the Public Security Forces, was elected as one of the 15 Standing Committee members of the Executive Committee of VFDA for this term.
On behalf of the Central Propaganda Department, giving a speech at the Congress, Dr. Dinh Thi Mai, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, highly appreciated and acknowledged the important achievements that the Association had achieved in its first term.

According to Dr. Dinh Thi Mai, the Association has made significant contributions to the development of cinema and culture in the country. In the coming time, the Association needs to continue to promote its role better.
