How many quotas does the university have left based on high school graduation exam scores?

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên29/06/2024

High school graduation exam results are still considered the main admission method of many universities, especially top universities with many interested candidates.

D HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION EXAM SCORES WILL NOT CHANGE MUCH

Based on the assessment of the exam questions by the PhDs and teachers, Associate Professor, Dr. To Van Phuong, Head of the Training Department of Nha Trang University, said that the difficulty level of the exam questions this year did not change much. The Literature subject was considered "easy", not new and not groundbreaking; while the Math subject was considered difficult, with high differentiation. The basic combination exam was the same as every year, mostly basic knowledge, no puzzles. From that, Associate Professor, Dr. Phuong said that the high school graduation exam scores this year are predicted to be the same as in 2023, without too many changes.

In general forecasting the benchmark scores for this exam at schools, Associate Professor, Dr. To Van Phuong analyzed: "In fact, in 2024, universities will have many admission methods, and in many schools, the quota for considering the 2024 high school graduation exam scores does not account for a large proportion. Therefore, the admission scores for some majors in business management, social sciences, etc. may still be higher than last year." Giving an example at Nha Trang University, Mr. Phuong said that the benchmark scores for some "hot" majors such as hotel management, English, marketing, automotive engineering, maritime science, law, etc. will likely increase by at least half a point. The benchmark scores for the remaining majors may be the same as last year.

Master Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that the admission scores of universities using graduation exam scores may be equal to or higher than last year, but the maximum increase is about 1 point. As for Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, the exam scores are equivalent to the school's admission scores last year.

Sharing the same view, Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, said that the score distribution of subjects in this year's high school graduation exam is not expected to have many fluctuations compared to 2023. While the admission method of schools this year has not changed much compared to last year, it is predicted that the benchmark scores of groups of schools and majors will remain stable as in the past two years. Schools with many interested candidates still have fierce competition in this method of admission.

D EXPECTED STANDARD SCORE

In addition to the exam situation, the proportion of quotas that schools reserve for considering high school graduation exam scores is a decisive factor in determining the benchmark score for this method. Based on the specific admission situation, school representatives made predictions about the level of competition for students entering the school this year.

Candidates take the social science combination exam. According to the assessment, this year's combination exams are relatively easy and differentiated.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry plans to maintain 50% of the total target for graduation exam scores, equivalent to nearly 5,000 candidates. "With this year's exam questions and target proportions, the standard scores for the school's majors are likely to remain as high as last year, around 19 - 26 points. In particular, for "hot" majors that many candidates are interested in, the admission score may be around 25 - 26 points," Dr. Nhan predicted.

The target for considering high school graduation exam scores this year at the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) is expected to be 30-50% of the total target (maximum of about 1,300 students). Master Cu Xuan Tien, Head of Admissions and Student Affairs Department, said that the proportion of this target has not changed compared to last year. It is expected that this year the school will still have about 50% of the target for considering high school graduation exam scores. The average standard score for majors considering graduation exam scores last year was 8 points/subject.

High school graduation exam scores also play a particularly important role in admission to the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University). This year, the school's comprehensive admission method accounts for 75 - 90% of the total enrollment target. Of which, academic performance accounts for 90% of the admission score, including 3 components: high school academic scores, Ho Chi Minh City National University competency assessment test scores, and high school graduation exam scores.

"Although the 2024 high school graduation exam score only accounts for 20% of the academic weight in the scoring formula, candidates without this exam result will not be eligible for admission. The school has announced the minimum score for this year's graduation exam from 18 and above," added an admissions officer at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.
