Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, affirmed that the graduation fee that schools collect from students is regulated by the schools, not by the Ministry of Education and Training. The Ministry of Education and Training also has no regulations on not collecting this fee. Depending on each school, the fee may be different.
Dr. Tran Dinh Ly, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, also informed that students paying graduation fees is completely voluntary. According to a university representative, this graduation fee is to cover the costs that the school must balance, such as renting a venue for the graduation ceremony, renting costumes, inviting singers, etc.
"The tuition fees you pay do not include these fees, so in order for students to have a truly memorable graduation ceremony, the school also tries to organize it solemnly and impressively. The costs sometimes exceed the school's ability, so this fee is also for students to share a part with the school," he said.
