In the final match, we set a goal of winning to qualify for the U17 World Cup, but the result was not as expected. However, this is a valuable experience for the players,” said Mr. Roland in the early morning of April 11, adding that missing out on a ticket to the final round was a valuable experience for his students.
Leading against UAE, U17 Vietnam unfortunately let their opponent equalize and lost the chance to attend the World Cup. He said the whole team had prepared carefully for the decisive match with U17 UAE but football always has surprises.
“Football always has its cruel moments, especially in the final minutes. The last three matches were a big challenge when facing the top teams in Asia. The whole team gave their all, showing solidarity and high determination” - Coach of U17 Vietnam expressed.
However, when the final whistle blew, he was still very proud of what the players had shown. "I believe the team deserved a better result. But the players are very young, and the experience from this tournament will be a valuable foundation for their future careers," added coach Roland.
According to Mr. Roland, the whole team shows clear improvement in their skills with each match. This tournament will arouse the desire to contribute and assert themselves in the players. They are the hope of Vietnamese football in the future.
On the evening of April 10, U17 Vietnam and U17 UAE drew 1-1. In the same match, U17 Australia won 3-2 U17 Japan.
Thus, U17 Vietnam and UAE both failed to qualify for the U17 World Cup. Of which, U17 Vietnam remained undefeated throughout the group stage but ranked last with three points, while UAE had the same four points as Japan and Australia but lost the secondary index so ranked third.
