On the afternoon of July 27, shooter Trinh Thu Vinh entered the qualifying round of the women's 10m air pistol at the Paris Olympics. This was a difficult challenge for the athlete born in 2000, as Trinh Thu Vinh had to compete with 43 other famous shooters to win 1 of 8 tickets to the final round.
With 60 shots (divided into 6 series, each series has 10 shots), the shooters need to maintain a very stable performance to be able to pass the qualifying round. In the first 4 series, Thu Vinh only won 97, 94, 96 and 97 points respectively, standing at a position close to the top 8. However, the turning point came in series 5, when Thu Vinh won 10 consecutive 10 points, extremely impressive.

Trinh Thu Vinh excelled in the finals when she was in the top 4 of the qualifying round.
With a perfect 100 points, the female shooter from Thanh Hoa entered the top 8, even at times sticking close to the top 3 positions. The final shots of series 4 and series 5 witnessed Thu Vinh's best performance with 12 consecutive 10 points, helping her accelerate past many good shooters to reach a safe position.
Although Thu Vinh did not start well in the final series with 1 point 7, once again her good form, concentration and mental balance skills that had been honed through many major tournaments helped the 24-year-old athlete not face any difficulties under pressure. Thu Vinh won 5 points 10 in the last 7 shots, thus finishing 4th overall in the qualifying round with a total score of 578. Thu Vinh even became the athlete with the second most shots of 10 points in the qualifying round (26 shots), only behind Indian shooter Bhaker Manu.
Notably, Thu Vinh has surpassed the achievements of many strong shooters in the qualifying round such as Kim Ye-ji (Korea, 5th place), Li Xue (China, 6th place) and Jiang Ranxin (China, 8th place). In which, Jiang Ranxin is the shooter who holds the qualifying score record (set at the Tokyo Olympics), but does not have a good achievement like Thu Vinh at this time.

Trinh Thu Vinh will enter the final round of the women's 10m air pistol at 5pm tomorrow (July 28) with a huge challenge. Top competitors such as Oh Ye-jin, Kim Ye-ji, Li Xue and Jiang Ranxin are all in the final. Not to mention, Major Veronika (Hungary) and Bhaker Manu (India) also shot very well in the qualifying round and have a lot of experience in international competitions.
Immediately after Thu Vinh won a ticket to be one of the 8 athletes in the 2024 Olympic finals, the head coach of the national shooting team Park Chung-gun awarded a bonus of 1,000 USD to the former head coach of the Vietnamese shooting team Nguyen Thi Nhung. Before the team left, Ms. Nhung offered a bonus of 3,000 USD/3 shooting events if Thu Vinh and Mong Tuyen reached the finals. In addition, the former head coach associated with the glorious achievements of Vietnamese shooting also gave 2,000 USD to coach Park Chung-gun and the entire team. This total amount of 5,000 USD was given to coach Park Chung-gun before the team left, with the goal of encouraging and motivating the athletes to compete well at the Olympics.
However, Thu Vinh showed that she was not inferior when competing with top shooters.
Thu Vinh started out as an athlete, training with the People's Police Sports Team since she was 14 years old. After 3 years of training without any results, Thu Vinh was transferred to try her hand at the shooting team. After 3 months of training, the coaches saw Thu Vinh's qualities, which were calmness, steadiness, and the ability to concentrate, and then received professional training.
After 7 years, the shy and introverted girl has now raised the Vietnamese flag high at the Olympics. Thu Vinh's talent was recognized at the 2023 World Championship, when the beauty of Vietnamese sports ranked 5th overall in the women's 10m air pistol event, which meant a place at the Olympics. After that, Thu Vinh and Quang Huy won the Asian gold medal in the mixed 10m air pistol event.

Sharing with Thanh Nien Newspaper, expert Park Chung-gun once said that Thu Vinh is one of the students he has the highest expectations for. The female shooter from Thanh Hoa has a rare composure at the age of 24, a progressive spirit and a desire to improve herself.
Thu Vinh used to be a new face, but after only 2 years of training, the 2000-born shooter has entered both the world and Asian playgrounds with tenacity and the courage accumulated in both success and failure.
