On February 9, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un accused the United States of being behind world disputes, reaffirming the country's policy of further developing its nuclear forces.

Leader Kim Jong Un made the remarks during a visit to the Ministry of National Defense a day earlier to mark the 77th anniversary of the founding of the Korean People's Army.
Speaking to the ministry's military and political command officers, he outlined a series of new plans to bolster "all-round deterrence" and reaffirmed the country's "unshakable policy of further developing the nuclear force," KCNA said, without providing details of the plans.
The North Korean leader accused the US of deploying nuclear strategic assets on the Korean Peninsula, US-led nuclear war simulation exercises and US-Japan-ROK military cooperation of "causing military imbalance" on the peninsula and in Northeast Asia, creating a "new structure of conflict" and posing a serious challenge to the DPRK.
Mr. Kim declared that North Korea "does not want unnecessary tension" in the region, but will take "sustainable countermeasures to ensure regional military balance" to prevent the outbreak of a new conflict and ensure peace and security on the peninsula.
Accusing the US of "always being behind major and minor disputes and bloody tragedies in the world", he declared that this proves Pyongyang's pursuit of "unlimited defense capabilities" is "the most legitimate".
According to KCNA , on the Russia-Ukraine situation, the leader expressed "grave concern" that the US and Western countries are prolonging the conflict with "the utopian dream of inflicting strategic defeats on Russia".
The North Korean army and people "will always support and encourage the Russian army and people in their just struggle to defend their sovereignty, security and territorial integrity," Kim said, referring to the mutual defense treaty he signed with Russian President Vladimir Putin last year.
In a separate commentary, KCNA criticized the joint military exercises between South Korea and the United States this year, accusing them of escalating tensions. Hostile and reckless actions will only lead to undesirable results, but did not elaborate on what these undesirable results meant.
According to Yonhap , North Korea has long condemned joint military exercises on the peninsula by the US-Japan-South Korea allies, while South Korea and the US have said their military exercises are defensive in nature.
