In the upcoming school year, 2024-2025, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to conduct online primary school enrollment. In this context, many parents whose children are entering first grade for the first time are wondering where to go and what procedures are needed to get their children's names on the enrollment list for first grade at a public primary school.
Wards and communes review the list of children entering grade 1.
According to Tuoi Tre's records in many districts in Ho Chi Minh City, up to this point, wards and communes are in the process of reviewing the list and data of students preparing to enter grade 1 and 4- and 5-year-old students preparing to enter kindergarten.
In Binh Tan district, wards will start reviewing the list of first grade students from January 2024. This work will continue until May 2024 and there will be additional rounds of first grade student lists.
"We check by neighborhood group, the groups will report the number of children of age preparing to enter first grade to have accurate data," a ward leader in Binh Tan told Tuoi Tre.
According to him, due to the large immigrant population and fluctuating numbers, the ward conducts early list checking and late list closing to have the most accurate data to ensure study places for students.
For parents in Binh Tan district whose children are about to enter grade 1 but do not have a list of students entering grade 1, they can contact the People's Committee of the ward where they live. Each ward will have an officer in charge of education for people to contact.
In District 6, the work of reviewing the list of students of school age preparing to enter grade 1 began in March this year. Currently, the wards are speeding up the review of the list and data to send to the Department of Education and Training, preparing for the enrollment work at the beginning of May 2024.
Multiple reviews
"The ward People's Committee will be responsible for making a list of first grade students based on the enrollment data of each school sent down by the District Education and Training Department. Students also have identification codes and this is checked in every neighborhood, so after this round of checking, the wards will continue with another round of checking," said Mr. Luu Hong Uyen - Head of the District 6 Education and Training Department.
Ms. Truong Tuyet Lan - Vice Chairman of Ward 5 People's Committee, District 6 said that currently, residential groups are reviewing the list of children of age to enter grade 1. This list will be compiled by the Ward People's Committee and sent to the Department of Education and Training at the specified time.
So how can students who have not been screened register for first grade? Mr. Luu Hong Uyen suggested that parents contact the People's Committee of the ward where they live to get their names on the school list. In this district, the People's Committee of the ward is also the place that issues notices for students to enroll in first grade.
According to preliminary records in Binh Tan District, District 6, District 11, Thu Duc City, the number of students entering grade 1 in the 2024-2025 school year is expected to not increase due to the number of students from districts in Ho Chi Minh City with a decrease in the rate of immigrant students.
Assessing the coordination with the Ward People's Committee in implementing grade 1 enrollment, Mr. Luu Hong Uyen said that since implementing grade 1 enrollment with the Ward People's Committees, enrollment has been more favorable. The reason is that the Ward People's Committee will clearly understand the area and suitable neighborhoods to divide routes or implement enrollment according to the GIS map.
