Miss Vietnam National Costume 2024: Not a National Costume

This is the comment of historian Duong Trung Quoc, advisor of the Miss Vietnam 2024 contest. He said these are the designer's creations inspired by national costumes and national culture.

The national cultural costume competition within the framework of the Miss Vietnam 2024 pageant recently took place at Nguyen Du Stadium (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).

The show introduced 73 national cultural costumes from young designers from three teams of coaches: designer Huynh Bao Toan - Pham Si Toan, designer Nguyen Minh Cong - Tin Thai, designer Van Thanh Cong - Vu Viet Ha.

"Not traditional costume"

Besides the ao dai, ao tu than, and ao ba ba, many costumes are designed with inspiration from many cultural features spanning the three regions of North - Central - South.

Traditional costumes of ethnic minorities, landmarks, dishes and cultures of each region are cleverly integrated into the designs.

Many costumes are inspired by unique Vietnamese cultural features such as Bau Cua, Dancing with Bamboo Sticks, Floating Lanterns, etc.

To clearly depict the culture of the costume, many contestants even burned incense and ate crab on stage while performing.

However, historian Duong Trung Quoc, program consultant, said:

"This is not a national costume, but all the designer's creations inspired by national costumes and national culture to create new emotions for our times."

He also emphasized that besides the main language of fashion, many other arts are also integrated such as decorative shapes on many materials, music, lighting and arrangements, and the performances of beauties bring many emotions to viewers.

He also expressed his excitement, calling on the audience to love and respect Vietnamese cultural heritage through these new approaches.

Artist Vuong Duy Bien - head of the jury of Miss Vietnam 2024 - said we should be proud to have a diverse and rich culture, a culture that inspires many young designers.

He also believes that the beauty queens' understanding and composure when performing also helps to add more uniqueness to the national costumes.

Besides the fashion language, the judges also focused on the explanation part, to see if the designer's ideas were conveyed correctly and sufficiently.

The results of the national cultural costume competition will be announced in the final night on the evening of December 28.

Near the end of the show, the power system suddenly went out and there was a foul smell, which scared some of the audience and made them leave. However, most of the audience stayed to wait for the announcement, some even sang happy birthday and shouted the names of the beauties as a word of encouragement and cheering. After 10 minutes, the power problem was fixed and the show continued.
