Hong Minh Commune Health Station: Implementing primary health care well

Having a history of high blood pressure, for the past 2 years, Mr. Nguyen Van Dau, Dong Lam village, Hong Minh commune, has regularly gone to the Commune Health Station to check his blood pressure and receive regular medication. Mr. Dau shared: For many years now, I have had high blood pressure, and there was a time when my blood pressure increased to 160/100. When my blood pressure increased, I felt tired, dizzy, and nauseous. Therefore, every month I go to the Commune Health Station to get checked and get medication. Thanks to taking the right medicine, enough, and regularly, my health has improved significantly, and my blood pressure is more stable.

Being elderly and having difficulty moving around, every two months, Ms. Doan Thi Hoe, Xuan Loi village, Hong Minh commune, goes to the Commune Health Station to get examined and receive medication for diabetes treatment under the non-communicable disease management program at the Station. After taking the medication, she goes to the hospital every month to check her indicators. For Ms. Hoe, getting medication at the Station brings many benefits, helping her and other elderly people, people with difficulty moving, not have to go far but still receive treatment without interruption.

Mr. Dau and Mrs. Hoe are cases of high blood pressure and diabetes who are given medicine for outpatient treatment by the Hong Minh Commune Health Station. Doctor Nguyen Thanh Chung, Head of the Commune Health Station, said: The Commune Health Station is currently managing and monitoring the health of about 450 cases of high blood pressure; 350 cases of diabetes, of which 60 cases of high blood pressure and 5 cases of diabetes are given medicine at the Station. Previously, when there were projects, the treatment of people with high blood pressure and diabetes was more convenient. People also established a high blood pressure club, sharing experiences in effective disease prevention and treatment. Up to now, when the projects no longer support, the club still maintains its activities. In addition to health insurance drugs, the locality has proactively called for socialized resources to effectively carry out the work of taking care of people's health in the area.

On average, each year, Hong Minh Commune Health Station organizes medical examinations for about 4,500 - 5,000 people. Patients coming to the Station for examination and treatment are mainly patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, cerebral circulation disorders, sore throat, flu syndrome and diseases related to bones and joints. The Station has 6 staff members including: 1 general practitioner, 1 physician, 1 nurse, 1 midwife, 1 pharmacist and 1 population officer. In addition, the whole commune has 11 village health workers who are the right-hand men of the Station when implementing vaccination activities, disease prevention and control... contributing to the good implementation of primary health care for people in the area.

Not only having the advantage of having enough human resources and general practitioners, Hong Minh Commune Health Station also has spacious facilities and some modern medical equipment. With the attention of local investment and socialized resources, 16 spacious and clean rooms were built, in which many functional rooms have been installed with air conditioners to create comfort and trust for patients when coming to see a doctor. The station has also invested in many basic medical equipment such as: automatic blood pressure monitor, diabetes testing machine, autoclave sterilizer. Promoting the advantages of human resources, facilities and equipment, the Commune Health Station has gradually established a position in primary health care for the people; is a reliable address when people need first aid for injuries, vaccinations... In addition, the Health Station also performs well in preventive medicine, disease prevention and control. Every year, the Station develops a plan to prevent and combat seasonal infectious diseases such as dengue fever, flu, hand-foot-mouth disease, acute diarrhea, etc.; organizes training for village medical staff and coordinates with local departments, branches and organizations to promote propaganda activities, implement environmental sanitation to prevent and combat epidemics, and ensure food safety. Thanks to that, for many years in the commune, there have been no mass food poisoning cases.
