The leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health believe and expect that during the visit and work of the representative of the Cuban Ministry of Health, the city's health sector will learn many valuable experiences in improving the capacity of grassroots health care with many community health activities.
On December 26, Associate Professor, Dr. Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, said that he had just had a working session with two leading Cuban medical experts, Professor, Doctor José Armando Aronte Villamarín and Professor, Doctor Sonia María González Vega. These are two leading experts in the field of public health sent to Ho Chi Minh City by the Cuban Minister of Health.
At the meeting, the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health believed and expected that during the visit and work, the city's health sector would learn many valuable experiences in improving the capacity of grassroots health care with many community health activities.
Expressing his impression of the technical development of hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, however, Professor and Doctor José Armando Aronte Villamarín said that the development of the city's primary health care will still face many difficulties when the majority of medical staff is concentrated in hospitals, while in Cuba, more than 50% of doctors and nurses are assigned to primary health care. A unique model of Cuba is that medical staff work in teams in community health care, and doctors at primary health care are trained systematically and formally according to the model of comprehensive practicing doctors.
According to the plan, 2 Cuban medical experts will work in Ho Chi Minh City from December 25 to January 6. The Department of Health will organize a workshop to exchange and share experiences of Cuban experts on the community health model in Cuba with experts on community health and grassroots health in Ho Chi Minh City and districts, Thu Duc City.
In addition, to help experts have a better understanding of the city's health system, before the workshop, the Department of Health will coordinate with the People's Committees of districts, Thu Duc City and directors of affiliated medical facilities to organize field trips and study tours at a number of medical facilities from city hospitals to district hospitals and health centers, and commune health stations.
It is expected that at the end of the working program, the health sector of Ho Chi Minh City and Cuba will agree on the content of signing a memorandum of understanding on cooperation, support and training in the field of grassroots health in the future.
