At this time, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City is asking schools in the area to review the conditions of facilities, equipment, and teaching staff to determine the quota for public grade 10 in the 2025-2026 school year. In 2025, the Department plans to enroll 70% of grade 9 students in public grade 10.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has 88,535 ninth graders studying at public secondary schools. Of which, Thu Duc City has the highest number of ninth graders with 10,975 students. Binh Tan District is second with 6,580 students. Hoc Mon District is third with 6,396 students. Go Vap, Binh Chanh, and Cu Chi districts each have about 5,500 students.

Compared to the 2023-2024 school year, the number of 9th graders this year decreased by about 28,000 students. In each district, the average decrease was 20-30% compared to the previous year. Thus, the target for public 10th graders in 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City is about 62,000 students.

From the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will stop organizing specialized classes in 4 high schools including: Gia Dinh, Mac Dinh Chi, Nguyen Thuong Hien, Nguyen Huu Huan. Ho Chi Minh City will only have 2 specialized schools: Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia High School.

The 2025 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on June 6-7. Candidates will take three subjects including Math and Literature in 120 minutes each; Foreign Language in 90 minutes. Candidates registering for the exam at specialized high schools in the city must take the fourth subject (specialized subject) in 150 minutes each.
