A type of electric vehicle proposed for use on the route

The project was developed by Saigon Public Transport Company, which is also the investor. Accordingly, electric vehicles are allowed to operate within a limited range on routes and locations in District 1, District 4, District 5, and District 6. Specifically:

* District 1 and District 4: Nha Rong Wharf - Khanh Hoi Bridge - Ton Duc Thang - Nguyen Binh Khiem - Nguyen Thi Minh Khai - Hoang Sa - Hai Ba Trung - Nguyen Thi Minh Khai - Nguyen Van Cu - Vo Van Kiet - Calmette Bridge - Doan Van Bo - Hoang Dieu - Nguyen Tat Thanh - Nha Rong Wharf.

* District 5 and District 6: Nguyen Van Cu - Nguyen Trai - Nguyen Tri Phuong - Hung Vuong - Hong Bang - Nguyen Thi Nho - Le Quang Sung - Pham Dinh Ho - Thap Muoi - Hai Thuong Lan Ong - Vo Van Kiet - Nguyen Van Cu.

The number of vehicles is about 200 electric cars from 5 to 14 seats, operating time from 6 to 24 hours per day. Drivers have a driving license from class B2 or higher and are professionally trained according to regulations of the Ministry of Transport.

Parking lots rented by businesses at SAMCO parking lot (No. 121 Co Giang Street, District 1); pick-up and drop-off locations outside the traffic area are agreed upon with tourist accommodation establishments, cultural and tourist sites; areas for arranging tourist vehicles at September 23 Park.

Vehicles are decorated with lotus symbols, painted (or pasted), city symbols such as: Ben Thanh Market, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee headquarters and do not carry any form of commercial advertising on the pilot vehicles. The pilot implementation plan is from the first quarter to December 31, 2025.

According to the proposal of Saigon Public Transport Company Limited, the expected fare for each trip is 10,000 - 50,000 VND, depending on the distance. Customers who rent for the whole day pay 100,000 VND; renting for the whole trip costs 70,000 - 250,000 VND.

Currently, the city is piloting two tram routes in Phu My Hung area. The tram route to transport visitors to the 23/9 Park - Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden area has been discontinued.

The Department of Transport acknowledged that the pilot tram routes put into operation recently have provided an additional form of public passenger transport, meeting the travel needs of a segment of passengers in the central area, new urban areas, especially tourists and residents of new urban areas.

However, the number of passengers on the operating routes is not as high as expected. The routes operate on fixed routes and schedules, so some time frames have low travel demand, making it difficult for investors to ensure operating costs.

The implementation of the new electric vehicle project will help meet the travel needs of people, especially tourists. Electric vehicles also connect with other modes such as buses, bicycles, etc., helping to develop public transport.
