This morning (August 23), the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a ceremony to rename Hanoi Highway to Vo Nguyen Giap Street. Specifically, a nearly 8km section of Hanoi Highway from Saigon Bridge to Thu Duc Intersection (Thu Duc City) was renamed Vo Nguyen Giap Street.
According to Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Anh Duc, the renaming is to acknowledge and honor the great contributions of General Vo Nguyen Giap. At the same time, it shows the affection and gratitude of the Party Committee, government and people of the city towards a general who has made great contributions to the nation.
"The renaming of Vo Nguyen Giap Street will form a continuous axis including Hanoi - Vo Nguyen Giap - Dien Bien Phu, creating a connection between the historical event - Dien Bien Phu campaign and the historical figure of General Vo Nguyen Giap, thereby contributing to educating historical and cultural traditions, enhancing love for the homeland and pride of the people", the leader of the City People's Committee shared.
On behalf of the Ho Chi Minh City government, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Anh Duc requested that departments and agencies review and count businesses, organizations, individuals and households in 8 wards of Thu Duc City affected by the street name change to support the adjustment and update of related documents, minimizing disruptions that affect people's lives.
Mr. Duong Anh Duc also hopes that people living on the road will sympathize and share with state agencies in the process of updating and amending related documents.
Previously, on July 12, at the 10th session of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, it was agreed to change Hanoi Highway (from Saigon Bridge to Thu Duc intersection) to Vo Nguyen Giap Street.
