At a press conference on the afternoon of December 28, Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, said that in 2023, Ho Chi Minh City will reach the milestone of attracting 5 million international visitors and 35 million domestic tourists. Industry revenue by the end of the year also reached 160,000 billion VND, 22% higher than in 2019 - the time before the pandemic.
One of the factors that has helped the city’s tourism industry recover is the inter-sectoral and inter-regional connections, with agencies participating in promotional programs. At the same time, the tourism industry has reviewed tourism products to bring higher value.
"2023 is a year with many different and impressive events in the tourism industry, with the participation of cultural sectors. This helps to retain tourists when coming to Ho Chi Minh City longer. Ho Chi Minh City is also aiming for sustainable tourism, protecting the environment according to world trends. This content is also of interest to many international travel businesses," said Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa.
Mr. Hoa said that recently, Ho Chi Minh City announced 50 tourism products. The highlight of these is the program to visit the national architectural and artistic relics of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council and People's Committee headquarters, attracting 10,000 visitors.
"The program created the most impression and attracted the most attention of the year. This is also considered a meaningful activity demonstrating the openness of the Ho Chi Minh City government in the new development stage, affirming the desire to closely connect with the people," Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa shared and said that this event is being nominated as a prominent event of the year in Ho Chi Minh City.

Regarding cultural and historical tourism, the city considers this a pillar, focusing on investing in major locations. Ho Chi Minh City not only develops cultural destinations and renovations, but also calls on businesses to join in building historical stories at these destinations. For example: Saigon Special Zone, Ho Chi Minh City Theater, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee headquarters...
In addition, the tourism industry has also organized and improved the quality and scale of events, the highlight of this year being the first River Festival.

Mr. Hoa said this is a series of unique cultural, entertainment and artistic activities taking place along the Saigon River. "The event arouses the love of homeland and pride of the city's people in the thousand-year history of their ancestors on this land," added a representative of the Department of Tourism.
In addition, the city also has many other activities, notably the series of activities of the City Tourism Week 2023 with the theme "Green on every journey". These are not only fun and entertaining activities but also attract meaningful activities, responsible to society and the natural environment, in line with the green tourism trend.
Regarding digital transformation in the tourism industry, the Department has deployed a 360-degree 3D map throughout the city, and will soon expand to neighboring cities, so that visitors can see images of the city and its connected provinces.
