Can Tho City: Finding solutions to improve the quality of grassroots medical activities

On the morning of August 23, Can Tho City Party Committee held a conference to summarize 20 years of implementing Directive No. 06-CT/TW dated January 20, 2002 of the Secretariat "On strengthening and perfecting grassroots healthcare".

Reporting at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, said that after 20 years of implementing the directive, Can Tho City has achieved a number of results: 100% of health stations have met the National Criteria for Commune Health in the period 2011 - 2020; Commune and ward health care have been given attention and gradually improved, performing well the task of providing primary health care for the people.

The city's population participation rate in health insurance increased from 44.7% in 2010 to 82.05% in 2017 and reached 92% by the end of 2022. 100% of commune health stations are eligible for health insurance examination and treatment; on average, the number of medical examinations and treatments at commune, ward and town levels accounts for about 35.24% of the city's total medical examinations. 100% of commune health stations make payment for medical examinations and treatment for patients with health insurance cards through the health insurance assessment portal of the social insurance agency...

Concluding the conference, comrade Pham Van Hieu, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, acknowledged and commended the efforts of Party committees at all levels, authorities, the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations that have contributed to raising awareness and creating unity of action at all levels, sectors and localities in implementing the work of consolidating and perfecting the grassroots health network.

However, the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee noted: “Currently, the issue of medical ethics is receiving public attention, especially after the work of preventing and fighting the Covid-19 epidemic, many related negative incidents have occurred, somewhat reducing the trust of people from all walks of life in the health sector and the medical staff. These are issues that require all levels and sectors, especially the health sector, to continue to research, identify the causes and propose effective solutions, contributing to improving the quality of primary health care in the coming time.”

According to comrade Pham Van Hieu, after this conference, the City Party Committee's Propaganda Department will preside over and coordinate with the City Party Committee Office to synthesize opinions, continue to supplement and complete the report, advise the City Party Committee Standing Committee to issue and direct good implementation in the coming time.

All levels, sectors and localities shall strengthen coordination with the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations at all levels to promote information and propaganda to all classes of people about the significance and importance of consolidating and perfecting the grassroots health network; strengthen inspection, supervision, timely detection and resolution of arising problems, contributing to improving the effectiveness of health protection and care for people at the grassroots health level.

Continue to improve the effectiveness of management and direction of the grassroots health system. Strengthen the organization, innovate the operation method, improve the quality and efficiency of the grassroots health network. Focus on investing in building a streamlined and effective grassroots health system, ensuring consistent direction in terms of expertise and profession according to the health sector, and have support policies to help grassroots health workers feel secure in their work.
