General Secretary and President To Lam attends a dialogue with American businesses

At the seminar, US businesses highly appreciated the economic development priority policy of the leaders of the Vietnamese Party and State, especially the commitment to remove institutional obstacles and barriers, helping businesses overcome difficulties and promote production and business activities.

Enterprises also shared about cooperation opportunities in many fields in which Vietnam has great potential and expressed hope to soon invest in Vietnam, and at the same time believed in the economic efficiency achieved; at the same time, they said that they will prioritize supporting Vietnam to maintain and ensure the commitment to sustainable development in the area and hope that the Vietnamese Government will create favorable conditions in terms of mechanisms and policies for favorable investment activities and long-term cooperation.

Representatives of US businesses unanimously appreciated the dynamic development of the Vietnamese economy in recent years with many encouraging specific results, and shared the Vietnamese Government's vision of strategic orientations towards a new era, the era of national sovereignty as mentioned by General Secretary and President To Lam.

Speaking at the seminar, the General Secretary and President said that the world economic situation has many fluctuations, complex and unpredictable developments, but positive trends are maintained, in which the need for peace, stability and cooperation for development is still the main flow; Asia - Pacific is still the growth engine of the world; the fourth industrial revolution is taking place strongly around the world, affecting all areas of the economy, in which the United States continues to be one of the leading locomotives in financial activities, science and technology, and innovation in the world.

In that context, according to the General Secretary and President, the Vietnam-US relationship continues to develop strongly, deeply, substantially, comprehensively and effectively on the basis of trust and interests of the people of the two countries, contributing better to peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development of the region and the world.

In terms of investment, the United States continues to be one of Vietnam's leading investment partners, with most major US corporations having a presence and effectively investing in Vietnam, while more and more Vietnamese enterprises have invested in the US market. Bilateral trade turnover in 2023 reached more than 110 billion USD, the third consecutive year exceeding 100 billion USD, thereby consolidating the position of the United States as Vietnam's largest export market.

However, the General Secretary and President said that the potential for cooperation between the two countries still has much room, strongly promoted by the internal strength of each country and the driving force brought about by the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two sides, emphasizing that this will increase consensus in each country; create conditions to mobilize and concentrate resources for important cooperation programs and plans that are mutually beneficial to both sides.

After listening to the sharing, contributions and meeting with many leading corporations, the General Secretary and President said he felt the energy and enthusiasm of the US business community to jointly promote the expansion of investment cooperation activities with Vietnam in the coming time, and at the same time hoped that US businesses would continue to make efforts to become the largest investors in Vietnam, promote advantages, take advantage of opportunities based on an equal relationship, mutual respect and mutual benefit to match the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

To achieve that goal, the General Secretary and President requested relevant ministries, branches and agencies of the two countries to continue to concretize the major policies and orientations of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership; promptly support and handle difficulties and problems of investors; and continue to implement solutions to improve the investment and business environment in an open and transparent manner.

Create the most favorable conditions for the business community

The General Secretary and President also hopes that the US Government will promote and encourage US businesses to increase investment in Vietnam, while creating conditions and continuing to support Vietnamese investors to expand effective business investment activities, especially projects in the fields of science, technology and innovation.

The General Secretary and President hopes that US investors will research and expand investment in sectors and fields such as science and technology, innovation, research and development; green economy, digital economy, circular economy, knowledge economy; development of chip industry, semiconductor, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IOT); new energy, renewable energy; finance, financial centers; biotechnology, healthcare, etc.

On this occasion, the General Secretary and President also hoped that US investors would continue to support the US Government to soon recognize Vietnam as a market economy, thereby creating favorable conditions for businesses from both sides to cooperate in investment and business.

The General Secretary and President affirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam always consider the foreign investment economic sector an important component of the socialist-oriented market economy, contributing to promoting fundamental transformation of the economy, positively impacting economic institutional reform and innovation, improving the investment and business environment, and enhancing Vietnam's prestige and position in the international arena. Accordingly, they always pay special attention and create the most favorable conditions for the business community in general and foreign-invested enterprises to operate effectively in Vietnam.

With the positive results achieved in the Vietnam-US economic cooperation in recent times, the General Secretary and President expressed his hope that the two sides will together move towards a new era in the relationship between the two countries, together overcome all challenges, take advantage of opportunities to join hands in building a developed, peaceful and prosperous world.

On this occasion, the General Secretary and President witnessed the handover ceremony of signed documents between Vietnamese and US enterprises, including: Cooperation agreement on energy transition and research on technology transfer in the energy sector between the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN) and Kellogg Brown & Root Company; Memorandum of Understanding on research and provision of software solutions in the electricity and oil and gas sector between PVN and GE Group; Cooperation agreement in the field of liquefied natural gas (LNG) between the Vietnam Petroleum Services Joint Stock Company (PTSC) and Excelerate Energy Company; Memorandum of Understanding in the field of AI, semiconductors and construction of data centers in Vietnam between Sovico Group and SuperMicro Group; Cooperation agreement in the field of aviation between Vietjet Air and Honeywell Company; Cooperation agreement in the field of natural gas production between Wealth Power Group Vietnam and representatives of Eternal Natural Resources Company./.
