Still haunted by the fire

Dong Van Tuan and Hoang Anh Tuan, two people who used a ladder and a hammer to break the wall to save three people in the mini apartment fire in Trung Kinh (Hanoi), came to receive the "Youth Living Beautifully" award. They shared that before the fire broke out, they did not know each other, but after the fire they became close friends. Previously, in the early morning of May 24, 2024, at house number 1, alley 43/98/31 Trung Kinh (Trung Hoa ward, Cau Giay district, Hanoi), a mini apartment fire broke out. Hoang Anh Tuan heard the neighbors' screams and immediately ran to the fire. At this time, the fire had broken out strongly in the apartment building. There were cries for help on the second floor of the house next door.

Anh Tuan and Van Tuan used a wooden ladder to climb up to the window, using a sledgehammer to break the wall so that the three people in the house could get out. Anh Tuan was the one holding the ladder, Van Tuan was the one who climbed up to break the wall. At the exchange, the two heroes still could not hide their sadness even though they had saved people. Van Tuan shared that until now he is still haunted by the severe consequences of that fire. "The biggest haunting thing for me is that after three people escaped the fire, there were still cries for help in the fire" - Van Tuan said. Anh Tuan said that after bringing the three people down, he could still hear cries for help but the fire had spread, making it impossible to climb up anymore. Both were sad, the feeling of helplessness still remained. "If we could go back, we would still do the same. We would still try our best to break the wall so everyone could escape" - Anh Tuan confided.

Living beautifully is living meaningfully for the community.

The Selection Council for the "Youth Living Beautifully" Award this year selected 20 outstanding young people from 159 submitted applications. The individuals were awarded in the fields of study, scientific research, national defense, security, order, and cultural, artistic, and volunteer activities for the community. Mr. Nguyen Kim Quy, permanent vice president of the Vietnam Youth Union, said that in the era of technology 4.0, the remarkable development of knowledge and technology brings many opportunities but also poses unprecedented challenges. Young people have to face new issues such as climate change, environmental protection, integration into the global economy, preserving national culture, and dealing with the negative impacts of social networks. But in any circumstance, living beautifully is always the guiding principle, the foundation for all actions and decisions.

However, living beautifully is not only about great actions or resounding successes. Sometimes, living beautifully is simply about small things that bring great value to yourself, to those around you and to society.
