On the afternoon of April 3, the plane carrying Australian Governor-General David Hurley and his wife Linda Hurley and the Australian delegation arrived at Noi Bai Airport, Hanoi, starting a State visit to Vietnam from April 3-6 at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong.
This is the first State visit by a foreign head of state to Vietnam in 2023 and the first state guest that President Vo Van Thuong has welcomed in his new position. The visit also has many symbolic meanings, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1973-2023).
Welcoming the delegation at the airport were Head of the Office of the President Le Khanh Hai, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu, Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Nguyen Tat Thanh, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski, and representatives of a number of relevant agencies.

According to the program, Governor-General of Australia David Hurley and the Australian delegation will lay wreaths at the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs, lay wreaths and visit President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, attend the official welcoming ceremony and hold talks with President Vo Van Thuong, meet with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue. President Vo Van Thuong and Governor-General of Australia David Hurley will visit the Vietnam Peacekeeping Force.
The Governor-General of Australia and his wife will attend a number of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations to recognise the achievements of cooperation between the two countries, educational exchanges, and people-to-people exchanges in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City; meet a number of alumni who graduated from Australian universities, and visit educational institutions in Ho Chi Minh City...
The State visit to Vietnam by Governor-General of Australia David Hurley and his wife will contribute to strengthening ties between the two countries at all levels, consolidating strategic trust between the two nations, and is a highlight in the important Anniversary Year of the two countries.
