Nhon Trach 3 Power Plant will have its first fire at the end of December 2024 and is expected to be handed over to the investor in June 2025. Nhon Trach 4 Power Plant's first fire is scheduled for April 2025 and will be handed over in September 2025.
Nhon Trach 3 and 4 Thermal Power Plants, invested by Vietnam Oil and Gas Power Corporation (PV Power), have a total investment of 1.4 billion USD, and the total capacity of the two plants is 1,624 MW.

Once completed, the project can provide 9-12 billion kWh of electricity per year. This is the first thermal power project using liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel in Vietnam.

The consortium of contractors Samsung C&T Corporation and Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation (LILAMA) is the winning bidder for the Engineering - Procurement - Construction - Installation - Testing and Acceptance Contract (EPC Contract) for Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 Power Plant Projects (Nhon Trach 3 and 4 Projects).
The H-generation gas turbine manufactured by GE has an efficiency of up to 64% - the highest in Vietnam today. Gas power plants in Vietnam currently have a maximum efficiency of 57%. |
The contract value is over 940 million USD (of which the domestic part accounts for 39%). The main equipment includes gas turbine, steam turbine, generator, heat recovery boiler and control system (DCS) provided by the world's leading manufacturer, General Electric (GE).

The gas turbine of the Project belongs to the H generation, with the most advanced and modern technology in the world at present. This is a consortium of international general contractors with capacity and experience, promoting both the internal strength and advantages of domestic contractors and the technological strengths of international contractors.

As of November 15, 2024, the total implementation volume of the EPC package is estimated to reach 95%, of which the design work: progress is estimated at 98.6%; procurement and manufacturing work: progress is estimated at 99.9%; equipment installation work: progress is estimated at 97% and commissioning work: progress is estimated at 18%.
The 800 MW LNG power plant is also the largest power plant in Vietnam to date. With a turbine-generator configuration - the turbine has a shaft length of up to 51 m - the longest among gas turbine systems in Vietnam, the allowable error is 0.04 mm. To serve the installation, LILAM invited a number of retired experts and highly skilled engineers to return to perform alignment, instruct and train the younger generation of workers, in addition to the guidance of foreign experts from the equipment supplier. |
In this project, LILAMA undertakes 5 systems.
In which, the 220 kV substation yard has been put into operation to provide services to the factory; the water treatment system has been tested and is ready to provide services; the compressed air system has been tested and is ready to provide services; the wastewater treatment system has been tested and is ready to provide services and the circulating cooling water system has been tested and is ready to provide services.

Samsung is in charge of the remaining systems of the factory. The specific progress of these items is as follows: The main transformer system of the factory has been put into operation; PEECC, LEC, LCI systems, power house 3 and CCB house (central control house) have been put into operation; Lube Oil system (lubricating oil and shaft lifting oil) has officially been put into operation; Fuel Gas system has completed receiving gas from the supplier PV Gas; UPW, Dosing systems have been tested and are ready for service; systems are undergoing pre-testing and testing such as: Auxiliary boiler, BFP pump, CEP pump, etc.

According to the actual progress assessment of the project up to now, Nhon Trach 3 Power Plant will have its first fire at the end of December 2024 and is expected to be handed over to the investor for commercial operation (COD) in June 2025.

Nhon Trach 4 Power Plant will receive electricity back to the 500 kV distribution yard at the end of November 2024. The first firing of Nhon Trach 4 Plant is scheduled for April 2025 and is expected to be handed over to the investor (COD) in September 2025.

Up to now, the progress of the project is entirely dependent on the completion of the installation of Steam Turbine, Gas Turbine and Generator.

Currently, the Project has entered the main part of the trial run, so it is necessary to have a connection point for wastewater treatment. However, the Industrial Park has only agreed to allow the Project to discharge 1,000m3 of wastewater into the industrial park's wastewater treatment system.
Therefore, the Investor needs to soon complete the contract signed with the industrial park so that the Project can discharge waste continuously and not be interrupted as it is now, affecting the project's trial run progress.

To serve the transmission of electricity from Nhon Trach 3 & 4 Power Plants, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) is currently investing in the construction of 04 power grid projects to synchronize and release capacity for Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 Power Plants, including: 500 kV Line Nhon Trach 4 Power Plant - Phu My - Nha Be branch; 220 kV Line Nhon Trach 3 Power Plant - Long Thanh 220 kV transformer station Nhon Trach Industrial Park and connection; 220 kV Line Nhon Trach 3 Power Plant - My Xuan - Cat Lai branch.

These are key projects, playing an important role in releasing the capacity of Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 Power Plants, strengthening grid connectivity, transmitting capacity to serve the socio-economic development of the southern provinces, including Dong Nai province. When the projects come into operation, they will contribute to ensuring energy security and increasing local budget revenue.
