Vietnam - Türkiye friendship amid earthquake disaster

During the historic earthquake in Türkiye, from the Government’s rescue teams to the overseas Vietnamese community, in many different ways, they have always accompanied and shared with the people of the neighboring country. The spirit of “helping each other” and international friendship has shone brightly in the heart of the great earthquake.

In late February 2023, two earthquakes caused severe consequences in 11 provinces in southern Türkiye. Tens of thousands of people and millions of buildings collapsed before the fury of nature. Pictured is what remained in Nurdagi, Gaziantep province, Turkey after the great earthquake.

Shortly after the disaster, two rescue teams from the Vietnam People's Army and the Vietnam People's Police quickly received orders to go to the neighboring country to carry out their missions. With the spirit of international friendship, the officers and soldiers of the two teams had 10 days without rest to search, rescue and save the victims still trapped after the disaster.

This is also the first time Vietnam has sent delegations to carry out international search and rescue missions. In the photo is a shared meal between representatives of the Vietnam People's Army delegation and foreign delegations during their mission in Hatay province.

"We highly appreciate the spirit, responsibility and efforts of the Vietnam People's Army Rescue Team during the nearly 10 days you have been on duty here. From the bottom of our hearts, we and the Turkish people thank you for coming and sharing during our most difficult days," a member of AFAD Turkey shared on the day the Vietnam People's Army team returned home.

Not only rescue and relief, the soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army are also ready to "share food and clothes" with people affected by the earthquake. Every afternoon, from temporary shelters, people come to the group's base to eat and drink together. The distance in language, culture and customs has blurred in an instant. Only smiles, faith and hope remain.

A Syrian refugee girl in Hatay was surprised by the small gift given to her by soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army. The fresh green cabbages will help improve the quality of her meals.

Thanks to the cooperation of the international community, including Vietnam, the Turkish people will firmly overcome the ruins and pain to move forward...

With the spirit of "helping each other", in Istanbul, the Vietnamese community in Turkey also connected with each other to join hands to help the victims of the disaster. "We consider Turkey as our homeland. This pain is the common pain of all humanity", shared Ms. Ngoc Nga, representative of the Vietnamese community in Türkiye.
