In 2023, the series of events "Vietnam Day Abroad" took place successfully in South Africa, France and Japan, leaving many unforgettable impressions in the hearts of the local public. The program contributed to promoting the image, country and people of Vietnam to international friends, while strengthening the friendly and cooperative relations between countries. Efforts to spread Vietnamese culture everywhere After 13 years of implementation, "Vietnam Day Abroad" - an annual national promotion program assigned by the Prime Minister to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to chair, has set foot in 18 countries with many exchange and connection activities in all three fields of politics, economy and culture. In 2023, "Vietnam Day Abroad" will be held in South Africa, France and Japan, respectively, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Vietnam - South Africa diplomatic relations and the 50th anniversary of Vietnam - France and Japan diplomatic relations. In particular, this year's program is honored to welcome Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and a high-ranking delegation on the occasion of an official visit to the Republic of South Africa (September 2023). Representative of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Hoang Huu Anh - Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO, commented that South Africa, France and Japan are all important partner countries of Vietnam, with cultures rich in identity on 3 different continents. Therefore, this year's program has been carefully researched and made appropriate adjustments in each location. South Africa is the first and also the farthest destination of the event series. Here, the Vietnamese community is sparse, and cultural connections and exchanges are limited. Therefore, when "Vietnam Day in South Africa 2023" was held in September 2023 in the capital Pretoria, it attracted the attention of local people and international friends, thereby successfully promoting the image, country and people of Vietnam in South Africa in particular and Africa in general.

In the program in Paris, many contents were selected to highlight the cultural ties between Vietnam and France over the past half century. Painter Luong Minh Hoa brought a collection of engraved lacquerware with the theme "French architectural works in Vietnam", which received the attention of many attendees. The photo collection "Vietnam I Love" by Ms. Armelle DG - Wife of the Former French Ambassador to Vietnam is also a vivid testament to the attachment of a French person to Vietnam. The highlight of "Vietnam Day in France 2023" is also the area introducing Vietnamese cuisine, where attendees were warmed when enjoying more than 500 bowls of Pho Thin (Hanoi). With “Vietnam Day in Japan 2023”, the Organizing Committee has cleverly integrated into the art program famous historical stories such as the love story of Princess Ngoc Hoa and merchant Araki Sorato or the beautiful friendship between patriotic scholar Phan Boi Chau and doctor Asaba Sakitaro to honor the two long-standing cultures and the strong spirit of friendship between the two countries. “Origin, Vitality and Continuity”: Respecting history, looking towards the future The series of events “Vietnam Day Abroad 2023” has chosen “Origin, Vitality and Continuity” as the main theme, conveyed throughout the activities of the Vietnamese Cultural Space and art performances in South Africa, France and Japan. This is an opportunity for international friends to learn about the "Origin" of the Vietnamese people through the Exhibition of World Heritage Sites recognized by UNESCO in Vietnam, through the "Golden Journey" - where exquisite hand-embroidered costumes recreating the costumes of kings and mandarins of the Nguyen Dynasty are displayed, or through traditional cultural beauties such as Dong Ho folk paintings, To he molding, etc. The performances also introduce many "colors" of traditional Vietnamese art, including many types that have been recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity such as Vi Giam folk songs, Hat Van - Hau Dong Gia, etc.

Dong Ho folk painting artist Nguyen Dang Tam shared his efforts to promote Vietnamese culture abroad: “Through paintings made from natural materials such as red pebbles, indigo leaves, sophora flowers, bamboo leaves, scallops, etc., I hope international friends can understand the daily life of people in the Northern Delta in Vietnam in the past.”

The next keyword in the main theme of the Program was used as the name for the promotional photo series "Vietnam's Vitality". The photos seem very ordinary and simple, but they clearly depict a friendly, hospitable, beautiful and dynamic Vietnam, ready to welcome international friends. The "continuity" and development of Vietnamese culture is clearly shown through the story of Pho Thin Bo Ho - a famous dish from the capital Hanoi and the art of lacquer carving. Nearly 70 years have passed, Pho Thin still retains its ancient flavor and is ready to reach international standards. Lacquer art has combined traditional beauty with contemporary breath to bring folk works to a new level. The series of events "Vietnam Day Abroad 2023" has ended and was a great success, leaving a deep impression in the hearts of the local public and the Vietnamese community abroad. This is the result of the tireless efforts of the organizer (Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs), localities, businesses, and cultural practitioners who have joined the program because they share the desire to promote culture and enhance the country's image everywhere. "Cultural diplomacy always brings special emotions, helping people of different countries understand and love each other more, while at the same time arousing the spirit of national pride of the Vietnamese people. The program "Vietnam Day Abroad 2023" is a gift for the Vietnamese community far from home" - Mr. Hoang Huu Anh - Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO, Head of the Organizing Committee of "Vietnam Day Abroad 2023" shared.
