It was just after 9am, walking around the city but the sun was already blazing, everyone on the street was covered from head to toe. I stopped by a seafood business in Hai Chau district, and asked about electricity usage because I saw that the store had many oxygenating devices in glass tanks, as well as freezers, refrigerators and generators. The store owner, Mr. Hiep, explained: “Due to the nature of fresh products, we really need electricity and use a lot of it, and it hurts every time we pay the electricity bill, so the only way is to actively save electricity. During the day, we only turn on a few lights because there is natural light, from 7-9pm we turn on more lights because at this time customers come and go continuously, after 9pm we turn off the lights in unnecessary areas.”
At the ice production facility in Son Tra district, Mr. Man revealed a "trick" to reduce electricity costs, which is to move production time out of peak hours. "During peak hours, the price of electricity is quite high, so I proactively rearrange production to save costs," said Mr. Man.
It is known that recently, PC Da Nang has launched the program "Households save electricity" in 2024 to build the habit of using electricity safely, economically, and effectively, contributing to environmental protection. Accordingly, the family electricity saving contest takes place from April 1, 2024 to September 30, 2024 (divided into 2 phases) with a total prize of 50 million VND. The evaluation criteria and form of certification and bonuses for each phase are as follows: 50 customers with the highest electricity saving rate (from 5% to less than 10% compared to the same period before will receive a bonus of 200,000 VND/household; 50 customers with the highest electricity saving rate (from 10% or more) compared to the same period before will receive a bonus of 300,000 VND/household.
Continuing with the topic of saving electricity, Ms. Hong (Hoa Vang district) clearly said: “During the hot season, I regularly monitor my family's electricity usage on the electricity industry's customer service app. At the same time, I inform family members to use the air conditioner properly with a temperature of 27 degrees Celsius or higher, completely unplug the water heater in the bathroom when not in use, take advantage of natural light, clean and maintain frequently used electrical equipment...".
At dusk, I stopped by a sidewalk sugarcane juice and soft drink shop in Cam Le district. What caught my eye was the system of wires with the bulbs removed, leaving only the lamp bases connected in a long row. The shop owner, Ms. Oanh, explained: “Just this one big bulb is enough to light up the sales area, there is already a street light in the other corner. It’s so hot, turning on too many electric lights is uncomfortable and costs more electricity.” She added that the string of lights had been hung up since Tet for decoration, and now that it’s not in use during the dry season, the bulbs were removed for storage, to avoid breakage.
In the context of the weather in the Central region in general and Da Nang City in particular is getting hotter, causing the demand for electricity to increase, putting great pressure on the electricity industry in supply. Therefore, saving electricity in each agency, business, household... is an effective solution to control and reduce electricity consumption.
Deputy Director of PC Da Nang Bui Do Quoc Huy said: “We have actively sent emails, Zalo messages, Facebook messages... to call on customers to save electricity, use electricity safely and effectively; turn off electrical equipment when not in use; regularly clean and maintain electrical equipment to operate stably and economically. Through that, we hope that the habit of using electricity economically and effectively will spread strongly in the community, contributing to environmental protection and reducing monthly electricity costs for customers”.
