Today (May 22), the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport coordinated with relevant units to reorganize traffic around the construction area of the An Phu intersection project (Thu Duc City).
Specifically, cars traveling from the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway are prohibited from turning right onto Nguyen Thi Dinh street between 6-9am and 4-7pm.
Alternative route: Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway access road → Do Xuan Hop → Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway parallel road → Nguyen Thi Dinh or Mai Chi Tho → D1 Van Minh residential area → Than Van Nhiep → Nguyen Thi Dinh.
From 6am to 10pm, the City Department of Transport also prohibits parking on Than Van Nhiep Street, D1 Street, and D2 Street of Van Minh Residential Area.
Stopping and parking are prohibited on D2 Street (from D1 Street to Than Van Nhiep Street extension).
Trucks over 2.5 tons are prohibited from entering Than Van Nhiep Street and D1 Street between 6am and 10pm.
On May 15, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) occupied part of the road surface at the Dong Van Cong - Mai Chi Tho intersection to construct closed tunnel segments of the An Phu intersection construction project.
4-7 seat vehicles, buses, and motorbikes traveling on the mixed lane of Mai Chi Tho Avenue in the direction of Vo Nguyen Giap Street to the Saigon River Tunnel are prohibited from turning left from Mai Chi Tho Avenue to Dong Van Cong Street.
Instead, the authorities opened the D1 intersection of Van Minh residential area - Mai Chi Tho, about 200m from Dong Van Cong intersection. The above vehicles are organized to turn around at the Mai Chi Tho - D1 intersection of Van Minh residential area to move onto Dong Van Cong street. From here, they will go towards Vo Chi Cong, Nguyen Thi Dinh streets...
Also at An Phu intersection, cars moving towards the Saigon River tunnel to Vo Nguyen Giap Street are prohibited from turning left onto Luong Dinh Cua Street to help reduce traffic conflicts. Cars wanting to turn left onto Luong Dinh Cua Street are instructed to go straight on Mai Chi Tho Street and turn around before the overpass B at Cat Lai intersection.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, after organizing traffic with the plan to open the D1 intersection of Van Minh residential area - Mai Chi Tho, traffic problems have arisen.
The volume of vehicles from Nguyen Thi Dinh Street through Than Van Nhiep Street, D1 Street, D2 Street of Van Minh Residential Area is very large. These roads are also blocked by parking along both sides, leading to traffic difficulties.
In addition, traffic situation at the intersection of Nguyen Thi Dinh Street - Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway Parallel Road is relatively complicated during morning and afternoon rush hours.
Therefore, the City Department of Transport and related units organized a survey and agreed on a traffic reorganization plan as above to limit traffic congestion during the implementation of the An Phu intersection project.
An Phu is the largest intersection in Ho Chi Minh City, connecting major traffic axes including Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, Mai Chi Tho Avenue, Luong Dinh Cua Street, Nguyen Thi Dinh, Dong Van Cong. This is also the gateway to Cat Lai - the largest port in the country in terms of cargo volume, so it attracts many container trucks passing through, an average of more than 20,000 trips per day.
For many years, this area has been a hotspot for traffic congestion at the gateway to Ho Chi Minh City. To resolve the above situation, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approved and started the project to build the An Phu traffic intersection at the end of 2022 with a total investment of more than 3,400 billion VND.
The project has a scale of three floors, including a two-way tunnel connecting Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway with Mai Chi Tho Street (the tunnel under the Saigon River), then continuing to extend through the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong intersection. Above, the intersection has two overpasses for vehicles to turn in different directions; on the ground, there is a central roundabout with a symbolic tower.
As for the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong intersection, in addition to the underpass extending through here, two overpasses were also built to connect these routes together. The existing Giong Ong To bridge on Dong Van Cong route also has two additional branches built next to it to increase the area.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport plans to complete three packages in 2024, including Ba Dat Bridge, Giong Ong To Bridge and HC1 Tunnel, to help reduce traffic pressure in the area.
By 2025, the intersection will be basically completed, meeting the travel needs of the people.
