In recent days, white spot disease in shrimp has appeared in aquaculture areas in some communes in Tien Hai district. To proactively prevent and control the disease, the district has directed localities to implement synchronous measures to prevent the disease from spreading widely.

Aquaculture households in Tien Hai district focus on treating the pond environment after shrimp farming areas were infected with white spot disease.

In the spring-summer aquaculture season, Hai Chau Aquaculture Production and Trading Cooperative, Dong Minh Commune, planted 130 hectares of shrimp, mainly focusing on whiteleg shrimp, sea bass, crabs, etc. In recent days, the weather has been unusual, alternating between sunshine and rain, directly affecting aquatic species, including the appearance of white spot disease on shrimp. To prevent and control diseases, the Cooperative has promoted to farming households to proactively care for and protect the aquaculture area according to the plan.

Mr. Truong Xuan Hoi, Director of Hai Chau Aquatic Production and Trading Cooperative, said: As of May 14, the shrimp farming area affected by white spot disease in Dong Minh was 14,760m2 of 13 households. In recent days, the Cooperative has increased visits to infected shrimp farming areas to guide farmers in implementing measures to treat the pond environment. Focus on improving the resistance of shrimp in areas not affected by white spot disease.

Not only the shrimp farming area of Dong Minh commune but also communes such as Nam Thang, Nam Cuong, Nam Thinh also suffered losses when shrimp were infected with white spot disease. In the area of 2,160m2 of shrimp farming infected with white spot disease, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Luan, Chi Cuong village, Nam Cuong commune promptly treated the diseased shrimp, and at the same time treated the pond environment with chlorine chemicals to avoid spreading to the pond areas of surrounding households.

Mr. Luan shared: White spot disease in shrimp causes losses to shrimp farmers every year. Shrimp get white spot disease because the pond water environment is not guaranteed, along with the changing weather, sometimes rainy, sometimes sunny, causing the disease to arise. To limit white spot disease in shrimp, we farmers mainly treat the pond environment to prevent the disease from spreading widely, ensuring the prevention and control of aquatic diseases according to the regulations of the professional sector.

Mr. Pham Van Vang, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tien Hai district, said: In the spring-summer aquaculture crop, the whole district planted 233 million shrimp. By May 14, white spot disease had appeared in shrimp farming areas in the communes of Nam Thang, Nam Thinh, Nam Cuong, Dong Minh with an area of 97,793m2 of 43 households. After receiving the information, the Department coordinated with specialized agencies to collect samples of diseased shrimp for testing. The test results determined that the cause of shrimp death was white spot disease. To control white spot disease in shrimp from spreading widely, the district has propagated to aquaculture households to disinfect and thoroughly treat pathogens in ponds with chlorine chemicals, controlling the outbreak of disease. Closely monitor the collection of dead shrimp and handle them according to regulations, avoiding affecting the surrounding environment. On the roads leading to the shrimp farming area, people are advised to sprinkle lime powder, use thick mesh nets, tarpaulins, and surround the pond to prevent insects from entering the pond and carrying pathogens to the shrimp. Absolutely do not take more water from outside the common water supply system into the pond when the safe water source has not been determined. Periodically use biological products to improve the water environment, control pH and alkalinity, and reduce toxic gases. Regularly maintain and stabilize the pond environment and improve the shrimp's resistance according to the instructions of professional staff.

For shrimp farming areas that have not been affected by white spot disease, the district will strengthen propaganda, provide guidance on farming techniques and disease prevention, and disinfect the environment in shrimp farming areas at households. Direct and assign staff to closely follow aquaculture areas to provide technical guidance, inspect, and monitor the farming and disease situation.
