On October 22, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, USA, the Committee on Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs (Committee 3) of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly discussed the topic of Promotion and Protection of Human Rights.
At the discussion session, countries assessed that the protection and promotion of human rights in the world is facing many multidimensional and complex challenges due to the impact of war, conflict, economic crisis, increasing poverty and inequality, etc.
To address these challenges and promote human rights, countries believe it is necessary to strengthen solidarity, cooperation, promote dialogue, and focus resources to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Speaking at the discussion session, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, emphasized that progress on human rights can only be achieved when peace, stability, and the rule of law are maintained at the international and national levels, while ensuring respect for the principles of national sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
In addition, in promoting and protecting human rights, it is necessary to prioritize solving urgent problems of the people, putting people at the center of all policies. The Ambassador believes that dialogue, cooperation, mutual respect instead of politicization and confrontation are the most effective ways to ensure human rights, contributing to promoting inclusive and sustainable development, leaving no one behind.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang emphasized that the struggle for national independence, unification and socio-economic development of Vietnam has no other goal than to ensure the lives and rights of the Vietnamese people.
Being steadfast and consistent with that goal has helped Vietnam overcome many difficulties and challenges, from a poor country devastated by war and embargo to become one of the most dynamic and rapidly developing economies in the world.
Affirming that human rights are not only a fundamental value but also an important content in Vietnam's international cooperation, the Ambassador highlighted the positive results that Vietnam has achieved in recent times, clearly demonstrated in the National Report under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) cycle IV recently adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council on September 27.
On this occasion, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang announced that Vietnam decided to run for membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term and called on countries to support this candidacy.
