Mourning comrade Le Minh Chau, a staunch revolutionary

Comrade Phan Van Mai, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, was Head of the Funeral Organizing Committee.

Many delegations came to visit the funeral and offer condolences to the family.

Comrade Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee sent a wreath of condolences to the family.

At the funeral, comrade Nguyen Minh Triet, former Politburo member and former President, visited comrade Le Minh Chau.

Also paying their respects to comrade Le Minh Chau were comrades: Truong Hoa Binh, former Politburo member, former Permanent Deputy Prime Minister of the Government; Le Thanh Hai, former Politburo member, former Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Truong My Hoa, former Secretary of the Party Central Committee, former Vice President. Comrade Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, also paid his respects to comrade Le Minh Chau and expressed his condolences to his family.

On the same afternoon, comrade Nguyen Ho Hai, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, visited comrade Le Minh Chau.

Previously, a delegation of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Le, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, visited Mr. Le Minh Chau. The delegation was also joined by Mr. Pham Thanh Kien, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council and leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council's committees.

During the day, comrade Tran Kim Yen, member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, as Head of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Delegation of Ho Chi Minh City; comrade Phan Nguyen Nhu Khue, member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Head of the Propaganda Department of the City Party Committee, as Head of the Propaganda Department of the City Party Committee, visited comrade Le Minh Chau.

Visiting comrade Le Minh Chau were many delegations of Ho Chi Minh City leaders, leaders of departments, branches and localities in Ho Chi Minh City.

Expressing his deepest condolences to the family of comrade Le Minh Chau, in the condolence book, former President Nguyen Minh Triet wrote: "With deep sorrow and sadness, we bid farewell to comrade Ba Chau, a leader, comrade, and brother whom we always respected and loved! Farewell!"

Former Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh also expressed his affection for comrade Le Minh Chau through the lines written in the condolence book: “…comrade Le Minh Chau was a steadfast revolutionary cadre who devoted himself to the revolutionary cause and the people. He has passed away, leaving behind endless sorrow for his family, friends, comrades and the people of Ho Chi Minh City.”

Comrade Nguyen Thi Le also expressed her deepest condolences to the family of comrade Le Minh Chau. In the condolence book, comrade Nguyen Thi Le wrote: “Deeply mourning comrade Le Minh Chau, former National Assembly member, former member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, former Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, 65-year Party member. His passing is an extremely great loss for the Party Committee, government, and people of the city. From now on, his family and relatives will forever be separated from him, and his children and grandchildren will never again hear his voice or image, that of his beloved husband, father, and grandfather. I hope Ms. Tu and her family will suppress their grief and always be proud of him, the exemplary husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family and lived with integrity and loyalty!”

Surprised to receive the news that comrade Le Minh Chau had passed away, comrade Nguyen Thi Le wrote to express her feelings: “I remember I just met you a few days before Tet, and now you have left us forever, what a surprise. Although I know that this departure is the law of nature, I still cannot believe it. I respectfully bow my head to say goodbye to you, my beloved Uncle Ba! I pray that the soul of comrade Le Minh Chau - Uncle Ba Chau will soon rest in eternal sleep!”

Can not forget the loyal comrade

Arriving early and lingering for quite a while at the funeral of comrade - comrade Le Minh Chau, Mr. Vo Ai Dan, former officer of the Southern National Assembly Office, who participated in the student movement to liberate the Saigon - Cho Lon - Gia Dinh special zone, was moved when looking back at the biography as well as the time comrade Le Minh Chau participated in the resistance war and worked.

According to Mr. Vo Ai Dan, during the time they were imprisoned together in Con Dao, although they did not have the opportunity to meet directly, comrade Le Minh Chau's courageous fighting spirit greatly influenced him.

“Comrade Le Minh Chau led the political prisoners in Con Dao to fight very bravely. From the bravery and fighting spirit of Comrade Le Minh Chau, it inspired and gave us political prisoners the confidence to maintain the courageous spirit of revolutionary soldiers,” Mr. Vo Ai Dan shared.

After liberating Con Dao and returning to Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Vo Ai Dan was impressed with comrade Le Minh Chau as an exemplary leader, straightforward, upright, and ready to express his views on incorrect issues.

"Comrade lived a full and meaningful life," said Mr. Vo Ai Dan.

Having worked with comrade Le Minh Chau - Uncle Ba Chau, comrade Dang Ngoc Tung, former President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL), always remembers a leader who was close, cheerful, and sociable with everyone.

Comrade Dang Ngoc Tung shared: “In 1975, I was a union official, growing up from a worker, and comrade Le Minh Chau was a member of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation. In meetings and working sessions, comrade Le Minh Chau always left me with the impression of a leader who cared about the younger generation, especially young cadres from a worker background. Although his work at the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation was not long, when he became a National Assembly member, Uncle Ba Chau continued to speak up for the workers, the working class and fought for the rights of workers. The Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation in particular and Vietnam in general highly appreciate and remember Uncle Ba Chau's contributions to the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Union organization.”

Comrade Le Minh Chau was born on December 25, 1935, in Truong Thanh commune, Chau Thanh district, Can Tho province (now Can Tho city). He joined the revolution in 1949. In 1965, he was arrested by the enemy, sentenced to death, and imprisoned in many prisons, finally in Con Dao prison.

He has held the following positions: Member of the Standing Committee of District 2 Party Committee, Member of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation; Secretary of District 6 Party Committee; Member of the Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Term III and IV; National Assembly Delegate, Member of the Law Committee of the National Assembly, Term IX; Director of the Department of Commerce, Director of the Department of Trade. He was also a member of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Term V, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee; Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saigon Trading Corporation.

With his contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the construction and development of Ho Chi Minh City, comrade Le Minh Chau was awarded the Second Class Independence Medal, the First Class Anti-American Resistance Medal, the 65-year Party membership badge and was awarded many medals, certificates of merit, and noble rewards from ministries, central agencies and Ho Chi Minh City.
