Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant stops releasing floodwaters, Thac Ba Hydropower Plant maintains 2 discharge gates

Hydropower plant stops releasing flood water from 10:00 on September 17, 2024.

Monitoring data shows that at 8:00 a.m. on September 17, 2024, the upstream water level of Tuyen Quang Lake was at 116.79 m; inflow to the lake was 1,002 m ³ /s, discharge was 1,216 m ³ /s.

In accordance with the provisions of Article 12 of the Inter-reservoir Operation Procedures in the Red River Basin, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has sent a telegram to Tuyen Quang Hydropower Company. Accordingly, the company closed the remaining bottom spillway gate of Tuyen Quang Hydropower Reservoir at 10:00 a.m. on September 17, 2024.

Tuyen Quang Hydropower Company is currently closely monitoring the developments of floods, construction safety, flow to the reservoir, upstream and downstream water levels of the reservoir to promptly report to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development according to regulations.

Thus, as of 10:00 a.m. on September 17, on the Red River basin, only Thac Ba Hydropower Joint Stock Company is still opening 2 spillway gates. Currently, the water level on the Red River is also decreasing rapidly; the flooding situation in the riverside localities of Hanoi is no longer a concern.

On the same morning, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development sent a dispatch to four provinces and cities: Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc and Hanoi, requesting the implementation of response solutions when operating the Tuyen Quang hydropower reservoir. In particular, special attention should be paid to ensuring safety for economic activities along the river and on the Red River.
