Prime Minister attends inauguration ceremony of restoration of President Ho Chi Minh Monument in Dominica

On the morning of November 21 (local time), during his official visit to the Dominican Republic, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife attended the inauguration ceremony and offered flowers at the Ho Chi Minh Monument in the capital Santo Domingo.

Also attending were Comrade Miguel Mejia, General Secretary of the United Left Movement (MIU), Minister of Regional Integration Policy of the Dominican Republic; Mayor of Santo Domingo Dio Astacio; representatives of the diplomatic missions of China, Cuba, Nicaragua, Honduras; members of the Vietnamese delegation visiting Dominica; and many Dominican friends who love Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh.

The ceremony was solemnly held with the brilliant Vietnamese national flag and the national anthems of the two countries being solemnly played.

The project is located on Coronel Rafael Tomas Fernandez Avenue - one of the main avenues leading into the capital Santo Domigo, which has now become a red address for the revolutionary, leftist, and progressive masses in the Dominican Republic in particular and peace-loving people in Latin America in general.

Meanwhile, the statue of Professor Juan Bosch, leader of the national liberation movement in Latin America and first President of the Dominican Republic, at Hoa Binh Park (Hanoi), was inaugurated in August 2018.

These are symbols of solidarity and traditional friendship between the two countries. In 1965, President Ho Chi Minh met with revolutionary Professor Juan Bosch when he came to Hanoi to attend the Conference of Latin American countries in solidarity with Vietnam.

The statue of President Ho Chi Minh in the capital Santo Domingo clearly states: " President Ho Chi Minh devoted his whole life to national independence, peace, democracy, justice and social progress. He was the leader and soul of the resistance wars of the Vietnamese people against the invasion of French imperialism (1946-1954) and the intervention and invasion of American imperialism (1954-1975), making an important contribution to the collapse of old colonialism and neo-colonialism around the world. He was the initiator and leader of the construction of socialism in Vietnam.

Ho Chi Minh is a moral example of diligence, thrift, integrity, justice, impartiality, modesty and simplicity, always close to the working people, cherishing nature, often called Uncle Ho by the Vietnamese people. Ho Chi Minh is a revolutionary, as well as an outstanding poet, journalist, and diplomat, a typical example of humanistic thought, international solidarity and friendship with people of countries around the world.

In 1987, UNESCO honored Ho Chi Minh as a national liberation hero and a great man of culture of Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor of Santo Domingo Dio Astacio recalled the famous sayings of President Ho Chi Minh and said that these sayings "still resonate" with all those who respect the sovereignty and self-determination of nations. He also expressed his admiration for President Ho Chi Minh's resilience and indomitable spirit in the face of adversity, the rich history and culture, the strength and determination that the country and people of Vietnam have demonstrated to the world.

He said that this ceremony is also an event to honor the friendly and close relationship between the two countries, based on mutual respect and for the prosperous future of the two peoples.

Comrade Miguel Mejia, Secretary General of the MIU Party, Minister of Regional Integration Policy of the Dominican Republic, emphasized that the visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh - the highest-level visit since the two countries established diplomatic relations, is an important milestone in bilateral relations, towards the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations, with many achievements in promoting cooperation in key areas, opening a new chapter in economic, trade and investment cooperation. "We affirm that Vietnam always has a space here," said Comrade Miguel Mejia.

For his part, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his joy and emotion attending the inauguration ceremony, thereby continuing to promote the value of the Statue of President Ho Chi Minh - Hero of Vietnam's national liberation, World cultural celebrity at an important location in the capital Santo Domingo.

Expressing admiration for the heroic history of the Dominican people's struggle for national independence and development, the Prime Minister stated that the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Dominica was built and continuously nurtured on the basis of sharing common values ​​in the history of the struggle for national liberation, promoting solidarity, preserving national cultural identity...

According to the Prime Minister, the Ho Chi Minh Monument in Santo Domingo and the Prof. Juan Bosch Monument in Hanoi are symbols of solidarity, close ties, sharing, and understanding between the two countries and their people; honoring the friendship and leaders of the two countries; a red address for educating generations of Vietnamese and Dominican people, and an attractive destination for tourists.

The Prime Minister sincerely thanked General Secretary and Minister of Regional Integration Miguel Mejia, the leadership of the United Left Movement Party, the Mayor of Santo Domingo and Dominican friends for their friendship and positive contributions to Vietnam and the relations between the two countries and peoples over the past years, especially during the construction (March 2013) and completion of the restoration of the statue of President Ho Chi Minh in Santo Domingo, showing good feelings towards President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam.

The Prime Minister said that in the current context, it is necessary to strengthen international solidarity and promote multilateralism to solve global problems that no single country can solve on its own; therefore, the two countries need to continue to promote the fine tradition of friendship that previous generations have built and nurtured, continue to unite and help each other in national development.

The Prime Minister knew that during this visit, he and the Dominican leaders agreed to bring the relationship between the two countries to a new height, to a new stage of development. Accordingly, the two sides will continue to strengthen friendship and good political relations; create a legal foundation to facilitate business cooperation, investment and promote travel and people-to-people exchanges; further expand cooperation in potential and important areas such as digital economy, green economy, circular economy, energy, tourism, and areas where the two sides have complementary strengths.

At the same time, a number of specific projects that can be implemented as soon as possible related to the fields of energy, climate change, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, Internet of Things, etc. were identified. The two sides discussed strategic and specific issues, determining the implementation roadmap with the spirit of clear people, clear work, clear time, and clear products.

The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam always treasures and remembers the solidarity, support and assistance that the people of the Dominican Republic have given Vietnam in the past struggle for national liberation and reunification, as well as in the current cause of national construction and development.

The Prime Minister hopes and believes that both sides will continue to pay attention to preserving and promoting the long-term value of the President Ho Chi Minh Monument and the Professor Juan Bosch Monument; wishing the solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Dominica to be forever green and sustainable, Dominica to be increasingly rich and prosperous, and its people to be increasingly well-off and happy.
