Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and cut the ribbon to inaugurate the Nha Trang – Cam Lam expressway project at Khanh Hoa bridge, which is connected online with Binh Thuan bridge.

Also attending the inauguration ceremony were Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai; Chairman of the National Assembly Office, Secretary General of the National Assembly Bui Van Cuong, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Hai Ninh, Secretary of Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee Duong Van An, Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, Commander of Military Region 7.

Also attending the event were leaders of the two localities, investors, and construction units of the two projects above.

The Nha Trang - Cam Lam project is 49.1 km long through Khanh Hoa province, invested in the form of public-private partnership (PPP) with more than 7,600 billion VND. The project started construction in September 2021, by Son Hai Group Company Limited (project investor). The first phase of the project has a scale of 4 lanes, starting at Dien Tho commune, Dien Khanh district, ending at Cam Thinh Tay commune, Cam Ranh city. In the completed phase, the road is 32 m wide, 6 lanes, including two emergency lanes.

The Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway is about 100.8 km long, 32 m wide with 6 lanes, maximum speed of 80 km/h. The project has an investment capital of nearly 11,000 billion VND, starting construction in November 2020.

Previously, on May 19, the two expressways were opened to traffic. According to the plan of the Ministry of Transport, cars are allowed to run on these two expressways at a maximum speed of 80 km/h and a minimum speed of 60 km/h. Compared to some other expressways in operation, this speed is 20-40 km/h lower, because the two routes are only in the first phase of investment, with a 17 m wide roadbed and 4 lanes. Both projects will not collect tolls after they are opened to traffic.

When put into operation, the Nha Trang - Cam Lam and Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressways will contribute to connecting Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, and Binh Thuan provinces closer and faster with Ho Chi Minh City and key economic regions in the South. The two projects also create conditions to expand development space, expand economic activities, and regional connectivity, while reducing the load on National Highway 1A, improving transport capacity and ensuring traffic safety.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony at Khanh Hoa bridge, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the efforts, endeavors and sense of responsibility of the two localities, as well as the investor, construction contractor and workers at the construction site for completing the project on schedule, ensuring quality and avoiding cost overruns. During the construction process, the contractor applied advanced methods, shortening construction time and reducing construction costs.

The North-South Eastern Expressway Project in the 2017-2020 period has 11 component projects with a length of 654km. Of these, 8 component projects with a length of 477km are invested in the form of public investment and 3 component projects with a length of 177km are invested in the form of public-private partnership.

Currently, there are 6 component projects with a length of 425 km, including the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet and Cam Lam - Nha Trang expressways that have been completed and put into operation.
