On the morning of July 3, in Seoul, South Korea, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the ceremony to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the direct flight and welcomed the 15 millionth passenger on the Vietnam - South Korea route of Vietnam Airlines.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assessed that this event marked a new milestone for the aviation industry of the two countries, and was also a testament to the deep and close cooperation between Vietnam and Korea over the past decades, and also showed that Vietnam Airlines is increasingly maturing and developing in the Korean market.
Vietnam Airlines marked the 30th anniversary of direct flights between Vietnam and Korea, welcoming the 15 millionth passenger during the official visit to Korea by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
Emphasizing the importance of the Vietnam-Korea relationship, the Prime Minister said that through this visit, he clearly saw five outstanding points in the bilateral relationship: political trust; human connection; economic integration; cultural similarities; and the shared aspiration to build a strong, prosperous country with happy and prosperous people.
Economically, South Korea is currently Vietnam's largest partner in terms of FDI investment (reaching 87 billion USD), second in terms of development cooperation and third in terms of trade (reaching 76 billion USD in 2023).
In particular, cooperation in tourism and culture is a bright spot. Korea has emerged as the number 1 market sending visitors to Vietnam. In 2023, the number of tourists between the two countries reached more than 4 million; in the first 5 months of 2024, it reached nearly 2.2 million, an increase of 9% over the same period in 2019, the year before the pandemic.
There are currently about 280,000 Vietnamese people in Korea, 200,000 Korean people in Vietnam, and 80,000 Vietnamese-Korean multicultural families.
"The more the relationship between the two countries develops and the closer the neighbors become, the more they travel, and the more they travel, the closer they become. Of these, the most popular means of transport is still aviation because it is fast, convenient, and has reasonable costs. Aviation plays an important role as a bridge to promote increasingly strong relations between the two countries, and bring people between the two countries closer together," said the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh speaks at the event.
In fact, aviation has played a good role as above and in the new context, especially with the development of Vietnam - Korea relations, airlines, including Vietnam Airlines, need to provide more diverse, complete, and comprehensive aviation services at competitive prices, through restructuring of management, human resources, organization, finance, and constantly improving service quality...
The Prime Minister called on businesses, citizens of the two countries, and those who need to travel between the two countries to choose the most competitive aviation services, in which Vietnam Airlines needs to try harder to win the sympathy and love of customers and coordinate better and more effectively with other airlines, competing fairly.
The Prime Minister hopes and believes that Vietnam Airlines will become more mature, stronger, more competitive, serve customers better, bring benefits to the airline and customers, and contribute to promoting relations between the two countries.
Over the past 30 years, Vietnam Airlines has made continuous efforts to expand its flight routes and upgrade its fleet of aircraft on routes to Korea. The direct route not only opens up the aviation market of the two countries, but also serves as an important bridge to promote economic, cultural and social exchanges between Vietnam and Korea.
Up to now, the airline is operating 06 direct routes to Korea: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City - Seoul; Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City - Busan; Da Nang - Seoul and Cam Ranh - Seoul, with an average frequency of up to 112 flights per week.
Vietnam Airlines is also the first and only airline in Vietnam today to operate modern wide-body aircraft Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 on Korean routes, bringing superior service experiences to passengers.
Vietnam Airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation with Korean Air and four travel companies in Korea under the witness of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
Over three decades, Vietnam Airlines has operated a total of 65,000 flights, transporting 15 million passengers and 291,300 tons of cargo between Vietnam and South Korea.
South Korea is also one of the fastest growing international markets in Vietnam with an average annual increase of 26% before the pandemic, reaching 1.3 million visitors per year in 2019.
Although the pandemic has had a very serious impact, with the airline's proactive solutions and the market's recovery, the number of passengers in 2023 has returned to the same level as in 2019. In the first five months of 2024, Vietnam Airlines recorded serving more than 562,000 passengers .
