Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attends the groundbreaking ceremony of Hue Central International Hospital 2

(CPV) - On the morning of April 6, during a working trip to Thua Thien Hue, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the International Hospital Phase 2 of Hue Central Hospital - one of the 5 special-class hospitals selected by the Government and the Ministry of Health to upgrade to an international-standard hospital.

Also attending the groundbreaking ceremony were comrade Le Hoai Trung, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee's External Relations Commission; comrades of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Secretary of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Party Committee Le Truong Luu; leaders of ministries, branches, central and local agencies.

Hue Central Hospital is the first Western medicine hospital in Vietnam, established in 1894. After 130 years of establishment and development, Hue Central Hospital is now a special-class hospital with 3 facilities, a scale of over 5,000 beds and over 4,100 employees.

Groundbreaking ceremony of International Hospital 2 project at Hue Central Hospital.

Every year, the hospital receives nearly 1 million domestic and international patients for examination and treatment; performs nearly 50,000 surgeries. The hospital has implemented many new techniques applied in various specialties, especially organ transplants (nearly 2,000 cases), including many cross-Vietnam organ transplants (leading the country).

The International Hospital of Hue Central Hospital, inaugurated in 2014, is the first international standard medical facility in Vietnam at a public hospital, with a scale of 300 beds.

According to Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong, Hue Central Hospital is regularly ranked among the top in terms of quality according to the assessment results of 83 criteria of the Ministry of Health, with a green - clean - beautiful environment.

Every year, the hospital serves a large number of patients, attracting not only local patients but also patients from other provinces and foreigners. This has also contributed to strengthening and enhancing the trust of Vietnamese people in local medical services, without having to go abroad for treatment.

Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong spoke at the project groundbreaking ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Lien Huong said that in recent years, many foreigners have chosen Vietnam to use medical services, because of its high treatment efficiency at much lower costs.

Medical tourism is a trend among many foreigners and this is an opportunity for Vietnam. The Ministry of Health has also had a policy of "pushing back" to attract foreigners to Vietnam for medical treatment, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this policy has not been implemented.

According to the Deputy Minister of Health, Hue Central Hospital has been selected by the Government and the Ministry of Health as one of five special-class hospitals to be upgraded to become an international-standard hospital. The hospital has many advantages to become a healthcare tourism center, with good quality, located in the famous and poetic city of Hue with 05 world cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO, convenient transportation to connect internationally and with many localities in the country.

According to Professor Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital, the Hue Central International Hospital project phase 2 has a total investment of nearly 300 billion VND.

Prof. Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital, said that the Hue Central International Hospital Phase 2 project has a total investment of nearly 300 billion VND for construction and nearly 100 billion VND for medical equipment, meeting the capacity to receive an additional 300 international standard (5-star) hospital beds. The expected time from the start of construction to completion is 700 days.

The construction of the International Hospital Phase 2 will contribute to the development of Hue Central Hospital with an international brand, a high-class medical center; becoming a center for training high-quality medical human resources, meeting the standards of hospitals in Southeast Asia and internationally, in the spirit of Resolution No. 54/2019/NQ-TW of the Politburo on the construction and development of Thua Thien Hue and Decision No. 201/2024/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on approving the Health Network Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050./.
