The delegation met with representatives of the New South Wales (NSW) government, visited and worked with the Vietnamese Consulate General in Sydney and had meetings with representatives of the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts in Australia (VASEA), the Association of Vietnamese Youth and Students in Australia, the Vietnamese Business Association in Sydney (VEAS), the Vietnam-Australia Cultural Exchange Organization (VACEO), a number of businesses and typical teachers of Vietnamese in Australia.
At the meeting with the Vietnamese Consulate General in Sydney, Consul General Nguyen Thanh Tung reported on the situation of the Vietnamese community here and the work of the Consulate General. Accordingly, the Vietnamese community in NSW currently has 120,000 people, accounting for about 1/3 of the total 375,000 Vietnamese people in Australia according to official statistics; it is a developing, dynamic community with intellectual strengths, position and economic potential. The people have integrated well into the local society, have many exciting activities to connect, preserve Vietnamese language and culture such as: organizing meetings on holidays, Tet, organizing cultural festivals, Vietnamese cuisine, sports exchanges... The community is close-knit and has many activities towards the homeland, supporting people in difficulty in the country. In the recent support for victims of typhoon Yagi, the Vietnamese community in Australia alone contributed nearly 4 billion VND. Citizen protection and community support are the core tasks of the Consulate General. Over the past time, together with Vietnamese representative agencies in Australia, the Consulate General has always gone deep and closely to understand the thoughts and aspirations of the community and provided maximum support, creating favorable conditions for the community.
Appreciating the work of the Consulate General, especially in uniting and connecting the community towards the homeland, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang requested the officers and staff of the Consulate General to continue to make efforts, promote the role and achievements, pay attention to and do better the work of NVNONN, support activities to preserve culture, teach and learn Vietnamese in the community; support associations in activities to connect Vietnamese businesses and entrepreneurs in the host country with agencies, localities, industry associations, professions, domestic enterprises, connect with Vietnamese business associations in the country and in other countries, thereby promoting the formation of distribution channels, importing Vietnamese goods through the overseas Vietnamese business community in the host country; support youth and student associations to operate more actively and effectively...
At meetings with community representatives, overseas Vietnamese expressed pride in the country's development and increasing position, believing that the increasingly good diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Australia will be a favorable basis for overseas Vietnamese to integrate, develop and carry out many activities towards their homeland; thanking the State and Government for their attention and many policies to care for overseas Vietnamese; thanking the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese for always accompanying and having many meaningful activities for overseas Vietnamese.
On this occasion, overseas Vietnamese made a number of specific recommendations and proposals, hoping that the State and Government would support and create favorable conditions in terms of mechanisms, policies, and information so that overseas Vietnamese can quickly grasp domestic needs and implement knowledge transfer projects, support human resource training, etc.; support resources to enhance exchanges, connections, nurture Vietnamese culture and inspire future generations; provide orientation in the dissemination of Vietnamese culture and language; have policies to encourage domestic enterprises to invest in Australia in areas where we have strengths and where there is demand, etc.
Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang highly appreciated the associations in Australia for their many activities towards the homeland, making important contributions to the cause of economic and social development and national unity. The Deputy Minister acknowledged and thanked the opinions and sentiments of overseas Vietnamese for the country, affirming that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to accompany overseas Vietnamese; coordinate with departments, ministries and branches to resolve their legitimate recommendations, thoughts and aspirations. The Deputy Minister informed the overseas Vietnamese about the new developments in the Vietnam - Australia relationship, the socio-economic situation of the country, new policies related to overseas Vietnamese such as the amended Land Law, Housing Law, Real Estate Business Law, Identity Law..., activities organized for overseas Vietnamese such as: Homeland Spring, Summer Camp for Youth, Overseas Vietnamese Delegation visiting Truong Sa, conferences and seminars for overseas Vietnamese to contribute ideas to build the country...
At the working sessions, the Deputy Minister asked groups of Vietnamese experts, intellectuals and businessmen in Australia to promote technology transfer to Vietnam, research and "export" Vietnam's strengths abroad, support training of high-quality human resources, etc. The Deputy Minister also emphasized the importance of preserving cultural identity and love for the homeland through preserving and honoring the Vietnamese language, and appreciated the voluntary and responsible participation of overseas Vietnamese in the cause of teaching Vietnamese. On this occasion, the Deputy Minister presented commemorative medals and presented Vietnamese language teaching support materials to two overseas Vietnamese teachers who have made many contributions to the activities of honoring the Vietnamese language.
During her stay in Sydney, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang met with Mr. Joseph La Postra - Secretary of State for the Department of Multi-Ethnic Affairs of New South Wales. Exchanging information about the situation of the Vietnamese community here, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang thanked the Government and the Department of Multi-Ethnic Affairs of the state for creating favorable conditions and supporting people of Vietnamese origin to preserve their cultural identity, language, origin and connection with their homeland Vietnam.
Minister of State Joseph La Postra assessed the Vietnamese community as a large, well-integrated community that has made many contributions to the host country, especially to Australia's cultural diversity with more than 200 languages spoken, of which Vietnamese is in the top 5, and affirmed that he would create the most favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to preserve their original culture and language and increasingly integrate and develop in the host country.
The two sides agreed that the upgrade to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in May 2024 is a clear demonstration that the Vietnam-Australia relationship is at its best ever. The two sides need to continue to promote the full implementation of the Joint Statement on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in all areas, especially education, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchange, including continuing to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to increasingly integrate and develop, making worthy contributions to the development of friendly relations between the two countries.
