GD&TĐ – Hoang Bao Ngoc is the only valedictorian of both blocks C00 and C03 in the entire Lang Son Provincial Ethnic Minority High School.
Born and raised in one of the poorest mountainous districts in the country (Van Quan district, Lang Son province), Hoang Bao Ngoc - a student at Lang Son Ethnic Boarding High School (Lang Son) always strives and tries his best with the desire to become a solid support for his mother.
Keep your spirits up
In the 2024 High School Graduation Exam, Bao Ngoc was the only student of Lang Son Provincial Boarding High School to simultaneously become the valedictorian of block C00, C03 and achieve a score of 10 in History.
Looking at the exam score sheet of the female student from Lang Son, many people were surprised when the Civic Education and Geography subjects had almost perfect scores (9.75 points); the average score in the Social Sciences group, Bao Ngoc achieved 9.83 points/subject, and 7.6 points in Math alone.
To achieve this achievement, Bao Ngoc spent a lot of time on social subjects since grade 10, instead of starting the race in grade 12 like other students.
“I realized that I had a special love for History and Geography, so I decided to pursue social studies to develop my strengths. From the beginning, I had determined to take the university entrance exam, so I focused on building a review plan early, not waiting until grade 12 to do it,” said Bao Ngoc.
In addition to the time spent in class, the Nung ethnic girl also spends 7-8 hours studying at home without having to be reminded by her teachers. Specifically, she studies from 2-5pm in the afternoon and from 8-12pm in the evening.
According to Bao Ngoc, in order to be able to study at home, in the morning in class she always focuses on listening to lectures, taking full notes and mastering basic knowledge. Every day, she focuses on studying one subject and then rotates.
Bao Ngoc shared: “If I study theory in the afternoon, I will focus on solving problems in the evening to remember the knowledge longer. For the self-study time in the evening, I take 1 hour to take a break, to help my body not fall into a state of fatigue and ensure my health for class the next day.”
Whenever she feels unmotivated, Bao Ngoc often calls home to talk to her family, plays sports or takes a break to regain her balance.
The female student shared that after finishing each exam, she did not revise the questions at home to help herself stay mentally strong for the next exam.

Dream of becoming a psychologist
The female student feels extremely lucky, because her family always accompanies her. Ever since Bao Ngoc was a child, her parents have oriented her to study at a boarding school, partly to provide her with the best learning environment, partly to help her develop independence and easily adapt to all circumstances.
“When I was in 6th grade, I started living away from my parents and studying at the Van Quan District Boarding Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minorities (Van Quan District, Lang Son Province). At first, I missed home quite a bit, but because my parents had trained me to be independent from an early age, I didn’t encounter many difficulties at that time,” Bao Ngoc confided.
The female student added that when she saw her mother working and taking care of the family, she reminded herself to try to become a strong support for her mother.
With her current achievements, Bao Ngoc plans to apply for admission to the Psychology major at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi).
Sharing the reason for choosing this major, Bao Ngoc said: “According to my research, in the near future, the province and the state will have many policies for the Psychology major, bringing great job opportunities for students. In addition, I find that my personality is quite suitable for this major.”
During her three years in high school, Bao Ngoc regularly studied some psychological methods to help her maintain a comfortable spirit and reduce pressure. Thanks to that, Bao Ngoc always appeared as an optimistic girl, confident in facing all difficulties and challenges.
Looking back on the past, the female student also wants to thank the teachers at Lang Son Ethnic Boarding High School for always caring for her. In particular, Bao Ngoc always appreciates the love everyone has given her.
Ms. Pham Bich Loan - teacher at Lang Son Province Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities commented that Bao Ngoc is a student with high awareness in studying. In the last months before the exam, she always tries to take advantage of every moment to review.
“Bao Ngoc is one of the most diligent and studious students in the class. During the mock exams, she always got high scores and maintained good performance until the exam day. With the results she has achieved, I hope that she will always try her best and achieve many high achievements in her 4 years of university, graduating with a Good or Excellent degree,” Ms. Loan said.
Speaking more about her excellent student in the class, Ms. Loan said that in addition to achieving high academic achievements, Bao Ngoc also actively participates in activities and movements of the Youth Union, creating a bridge with classmates.
