On June 14, the Department of Industrial Safety Techniques and Environment ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) sent a report to Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien updating details on the operation of hydroelectric reservoirs in areas nationwide.
Lai Chau Hydropower Plant has escaped the dead water level but still has to operate at a moderate level to ensure safety for the generators.
In the North, yesterday, June 13, water flow to hydroelectric reservoirs was recorded to have increased compared to June 12 but was still at a low level.
Specifically, the water flow to Lai Chau hydroelectric reservoir is 401 m3 /second; Son La hydroelectric reservoir is 278 m3 /second; Hoa Binh hydroelectric reservoir is 404 m3 /second; Thac Ba hydroelectric reservoir is 96 m3 /second; Tuyen Quang hydroelectric reservoir is 425 m3 /second; Ban Chat hydroelectric reservoir is 266 m3 /second. Currently, in the North, only Thac Ba hydroelectric reservoir is near dead water level.
According to the Department of Industrial Safety and Environment, the current amount of water flowing into the lake is mainly used to regulate water flow to ensure minimum flow. Hydroelectric plants operate to generate electricity using the water flow.
In the Northern and North Central regions, factories are having to generate electricity at a low water level and capacity to ensure the safety of the generators during operation, making it difficult to meet the electricity generation requirements according to the reservoir operation process at this time.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on the night of June 13 and early this morning, June 14, the Northern region will have moderate rain, heavy rain, very heavy rain in some places, and scattered thunderstorms.
Rainfall from 7pm on June 13 to 7am on June 14 was over 100mm in some places such as: Chiem Hoa (Tuyen Quang) 176.0mm; Bao Nhai (Lao Cai) 111mm; Minh Tien (Yen Bai province) 137.2mm; Van Ninh (Lang Son) 127.2mm; Vu Chan (Thai Nguyen) 112.9mm...
Speaking to Thanh Nien , Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of the Weather Forecast Department (National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting), said that widespread thunderstorms and localized heavy rain in the Northern region are likely to last until around June 16.
However, this rain mainly occurs in the Viet Bac region, while in the Northwest region and the upper Da River, where many large hydroelectric plants are concentrated, there is not much rain. It is forecasted that the total rainfall will only reach over 50 mm.
According to the weather forecast updated to the present time, heavy rain in the North in the coming days will increase the water flow to the Hoa Binh, Thac Ba, and Tuyen Quang hydroelectric reservoirs, while the water flow to the upstream Da River hydroelectric reservoirs remains low.
