Thien Thien Hue calls for financial support to eliminate temporary houses for poor households in mountainous district of A Luoi

On the afternoon of November 29, the Steering Committee for Sustainable Poverty Reduction of Thua Thien Hue province held a launching ceremony to support funding to eliminate temporary housing for poor households in the mountainous district of A Luoi.

Mr. Phan Ngoc Tho - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Steering Committee for Sustainable Poverty Reduction of Thua Thien Hue province spoke at the launching ceremony.

A Luoi is a mountainous, border district of Thua Thien Hue province, with 77% of the district's population being ethnic minorities. A Luoi is also on the list of 74 poor districts nationwide, for the period 2021 - 2025 according to the Prime Minister's Decision.

Mr. Huynh Cong Quang - Secretary of the District Party Committee, Head of the Steering Committee for Sustainable Poverty Reduction of A Luoi district said that this locality has entered the implementation of the National Target Program (NTRP) for sustainable poverty reduction in the period of 2021 - 2025 with many difficulties and challenges. According to the results of the survey of poor households according to the new standards, by the end of 2021, the whole district of A Luoi had 7,022 poor households, accounting for 49.98%; there were 2,185 near-poor households, accounting for 15.55%.

Over the past 2 years, the Party Committee and the government of A Luoi district have identified sustainable poverty reduction as a particularly important political task, throughout the 2020-2025 term of the entire political system as well as all people. This is also the top priority goal in the process of leading, directing, operating and organizing the implementation of local socio-economic development tasks.

According to Mr. Quang, with the efforts and determination of the entire political system and the active participation of the people, the sustainable poverty reduction work of A Luoi district has initially achieved positive results. By the end of 2022, the whole district of A Luoi had 1,623 households escaping poverty, exceeding the plan by 193 households. According to preliminary investigation and review results, by the end of 2023, A Luoi had 1,914 more households escaping poverty.

After 2 years of implementing the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, A Luoi has helped 3,573 households escape poverty, a decrease of 25.58%. Up to now, the poverty rate of the whole A Luoi district is 24.4% (3,485 households), meeting the conditions to escape the national poor district by the end of 2023.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Phan Ngoc Tho - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Steering Committee for Sustainable Poverty Reduction of Thua Thien Hue province affirmed that in recent times, the province has directed the implementation of sustainable poverty reduction effectively. Poverty reduction policies have been implemented promptly and in accordance with regulations; many sectors and localities have had good practices, suitable for each target group; a number of poverty reduction models have been effectively implemented, ... contributing to the successful implementation of the goal of reducing the poverty rate of the whole province to 1.84% by 2025 and by the end of 2023, meeting the conditions to remove A Luoi from the list of 74 national poor districts. This is an important condition for building Thua Thien Hue province into a centrally-run city according to Resolution 54 of the Politburo.

However, in addition to the achieved results, sustainable poverty reduction in Thua Thien Hue province still has limitations. In particular, the poverty rate in A Luoi district is still high; the whole district still has 11 communes with a poverty rate of over 25% and 1,752 temporary houses in need of support.

The head of the Steering Committee for Sustainable Poverty Reduction in Thua Thien Hue province said that A Luoi strives to reduce the poverty rate to 12.1% by the end of 2025. However, the district's budget revenue is still low; the lives of a part of the population still face many difficulties. In particular, the funding source to support poor households in eliminating temporary housing is still limited.

“On behalf of the Provincial Steering Committee for Sustainable Poverty Reduction, I call on social organizations, businesses, and philanthropists to continue to pay attention, accompany, and join hands to support funding to eliminate temporary housing for poor households in A Luoi district,” the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Party Committee called.

At the launching ceremony, 33 organizations and businesses donated more than 7 billion VND to support the elimination of temporary housing for poor households in A Luoi district. The Steering Committee for Sustainable Poverty Reduction of Thua Thien Hue province committed to using the funds for the right purposes, supporting poor households to eliminate temporary housing, stabilize their lives, and escape poverty sustainably.
