Market on the first day of Tet: Convenience stores open throughout Tet, fresh fruit for temple visits increases slightly in price

According to information from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the consumer goods market on the first day of Tet is less active because people mainly go out to celebrate Tet, visit relatives, and go to pagodas at the beginning of the year.

Trading activities are very low because most businesses are closed for Tet.

However, some convenience store chains such as Circle K, Family Mart, B's mart, 7 Eleven, GS25 or large distribution systems such as AEON, Go! and Big C... are still open during Tet to serve people's shopping needs. Prices of goods at supermarkets are generally stable compared to before Tet.

Prices of many items are stable

According to traditional customs, on the first day of Tet, people often go to temples, communal houses, and pagodas to worship at the beginning of the year. The items sold by traders and consumed today are mainly flowers, fresh fruits, candies, votive paper... to serve people going to worship.

According to a survey by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the prices of some essential goods on the first day of Tet at supermarkets were stable compared to the previous day. Specifically, the prices of regular rice, high-quality rice and delicious sticky rice serving the needs of Tet tended to be stable.

In particular, the price of high-quality rice in the North is from 25,000 - 42,000 VND/kg; in the South it is from 22,000 - 38,000 VND/kg; sticky rice is from 29,000 - 38,000 VND/kg and in the South it is 27,000 - 34,000 VND/kg.

For fresh food items, pork, beef, and mackerel prices (in the South) increased slightly by 5,000-10,000 VND/kg compared to the previous day. Common pork prices include: rump 110,000-120,000 VND/kg; pork loin and belly 130,000-160,000 VND/kg.

The price of grade 1 beef tenderloin is from 250,000-280,000 VND/kg. The price of feathered chicken is 120,000-150,000 VND/kg. The price of shrimp (26-30 pieces/kg): 400,000-450,000 VND/kg.

Processed food items have common prices with items including: Pork sausage is currently popular from 150,000-170,000 VND/kg, beef sausage price is about 280,000-300,000 VND/kg, banh chung price ranges from 50,000-70,000 VND/piece (depending on size and weight).

Although the weather is cold, the supply of vegetables and fruits is abundant and diverse, so prices are stable.

The prices of some popular vegetables are as follows: cabbage: 10,000-15,000 VND/plant, kohlrabi: 5,000 VND/root, lettuce: 15,000-30,000 VND/kg, tomatoes: 10,000-15,000 VND/kg (depending on the locality), potatoes: 15,000-20,000 VND/kg, cauliflower: 10,000-15,000 VND/plant...

Fruit and vegetable stalls for temple visits increase

At the same time, the prices of some delicious fruits, popular for going to pagodas, tend to be stable compared to the previous day, except for dragon fruit and oranges, which tend to increase locally in some areas.

Specifically, dragon fruit price is 60,000-90,000 VND/kg. Cat mango 50,000-60,000 VND/kg. Canh orange 50,000-77,000 VND/kg. Dien grapefruit 20,000-25,000 VND/kg. Imported apple 100,000-120,000 VND/kg...

However, the prices of some types of flowers have increased slightly due to the demand for people to go to pagodas. In particular, the prices of some popular types of flowers are as follows: Lilies from 200,000 - 350,000 VND/dozen branches depending on the type of Gladiolus from 80,000 - 100,000 VND/dozen. Large chrysanthemums are about 40,000 - 60,000 VND/dozen. Roses are 50,000 - 70,000 VND/dozen...

It is predicted that on the second day of Tet, some supermarkets will reopen. Small traders in some large markets will also start selling again to serve people, mainly focusing on vegetables, tubers and fruits.
