Concerns about the C00 block benchmark skyrocketing

As of today (July 28), candidates have nearly 3 days left to register, adjust and add their wishes on the Ministry of Education and Training's admission system. With the current high school graduation exam score distribution this year, many candidates have expressed concern that the benchmark scores for teacher training majors (pedagogy majors) will increase sharply.

Reader PQT said: "My child registered for admission to block C00, which includes 3 subjects: literature, history, and geography. His high school graduation exam score was 28, without the 0.25 priority points. He wants to register for the literature pedagogy major at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, but the predicted standard score is likely to increase by 2 points (in 2023, it will be 27 points), so he is quite worried."

Another reader was concerned that this year the quota for pedagogical majors was drastically cut. "With the quota cut for pedagogical majors compared to the school's original plan, how will the admission process be carried out? Will the benchmark score skyrocket?", this reader asked.

Not only the pedagogy sector, candidates applying for the C00 group also expressed their concerns when applying for other social sciences and humanities. "Another burning issue is, if the expected standard score for pedagogy sectors increases from 0.75 to 1 point, how much will the other sectors increase in the C00 group. For example, the Religious Studies major at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City?", a reader asked.

How far will the benchmark increase?

Sharing with Thanh Nien reporter, Dr. Huynh Trung Phong, Director of the Center for Student Support and Startup Development of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, said that currently, based on many factors, it can be predicted that the admission score for the Literature Pedagogy major will increase by 1.5 - 2 points compared to 2023. That means, the possibility of candidates achieving 29 points or more to be admitted.

The secret to helping Gen Z register for admission intelligently during the "golden time"

However, Dr. Trung Phong noted: "This is just a prediction, the exact admission score will only be known for sure when it is announced. Therefore, in order not to lose the opportunity to study literature pedagogy but still ensure safety when considering admission, in addition to registering the literature pedagogy as the first choice, it is necessary to consider registering for other majors close to the major registered in the next choice. For example, literature and Vietnamese studies, in which after graduating from literature, you can study pedagogy to become a literature teacher."

Sharing more about the quotas for teacher training majors this year, Dr. Trung Phong said that the quotas assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to schools are based on the social needs of each region and the training capacity of that training institution. This year, the number of quotas for teacher training majors at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education has increased. The admission scores for each major are determined specifically based on the candidates who register for that major, from highest to lowest, until the quota is met. The score that the candidate achieves the lowest in the admission list is the standard score for the major.

Meanwhile, Master Nguyen Thao Chi, Head of the Department of Communications and Business Relations at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University), also said that predicting the benchmark score of a major, in addition to being based on the average score range of high school graduation exams, must also consider the quota and number of candidates registering for a major in the admission year. The number of candidates registering also depends on the context of the labor market, policies and plans for human resource development of the country, provinces and cities, strategies, plans, and orientations for admission consulting of each school, and the choice of which school the candidate wants to study at...

"These are variables that cannot be precisely determined, so candidates need to consider all of them when choosing their wishes. It cannot be simply calculated that if the average score increases by 0.75-1 point, the admission scores for those majors will also increase accordingly," analyzed Master Thao Chi.

As for anthropology and religious studies, Master Thao Chi predicts that there will not be many changes in the benchmark scores. For religious studies, which was a new and little-known major in previous years, this year it may remain the same or increase according to the general increase in the score range of group C and social needs.

In 2023, the benchmark score for the high school graduation exam for religious studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City is 21 points for all 3 groups: C00, D01 and D14.
