Ha Quynh Nhu was born in 2004 in Yen Thanh, Nghe An. She is considered a "special phenomenon" of Vietnamese music when she became famous at a very young age. At the age of 3, Ha Quynh Nhu was passionate about and knew how to sing Nghe Tinh Vi - Giam folk songs. At the age of 5, she could sing the song "A song of Ha Tinh people's feelings" by musician Nguyen Van Ty. When she was a 7th grade student, Ha Quynh Nhu was famous far and wide for her unique voice, with a vocal range similar to her predecessors in folk music, especially singer Anh Tho.
During the period 2014 - 2017, clips recorded a small girl with dark skin, a gentle smile... singing folk songs such as "Xa khoi", "Giua Mac Tu Khoa nghe cau ho Nghe Tinh"... with a voice and technique like a professional singer, making many people admire. Ha Quynh Nhu at that time became an "internet phenomenon" with the nickname "child singer".
In 2017, Ha Quynh Nhu participated in the "Future Idol" contest and won third prize. In this contest, the young singer impressed the audience and was highly praised by the judges when performing a series of songs: "Ve Ha Tinh nguoi oi", "Giận ma thuong", "Ha Tinh que minh", "Mot khuc tam tinh nguoi Ha Tinh"... with a completely new color, never seen in any singing talent search program before. After this program, Ha Quynh Nhu became an "Idol" of many fans.
In 2018, Ha Quynh Nhu participated in the 6th season of The Voice Kids. Appearing for the first time in the Blind Audition round, she impressed the 6 coaches and the audience with the English song "A Moment Like This" with a technical and emotional voice. After the Blind Audition round, Ha Quynh Nhu chose to join the team of coaches Ho Hoai Anh-Luu Huong Giang. In this program, for the first time, Ha Quynh Nhu tried her hand at genres such as ballads, contemporary folk songs, English, Northwest folk songs... As a result, Ha Quynh Nhu convincingly won the title of Champion of The Voice Kids season 6.
After becoming the champion of The Voice Kids, Ha Quynh Nhu decided to enroll in music studies at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. She was directly taught by Dr. of Music - singer Anh Tho. While still in the Academy, Ha Quynh Nhu established herself as an independent singer.
Although Ha Quynh Nhu's journey from a child singer to a singer was not too long, it was a persistent journey with many challenges. In the first days of the year of the Dragon, Ha Quynh Nhu had an interesting conversation with Dan Viet .
How has Ha Quynh Nhu's life changed since she left the image of a child singer to become a singer pursuing folk music, and right from the start of her singing career, she already had a very unique position?
- Since I came to Ho Chi Minh City to participate in the Voice Kids contest, my life has changed. I have many more fans and that gives me more motivation to work. And when I won the prize from the contest, I received more invitations to perform and had more income to help my family. Later, when I went to Hanoi to study at the National Academy of Music, I also encountered some difficulties because I had to leave my family, live alone, and be independent in everything.

At first, my mother was afraid that life in Hanoi would be strange and difficult, so she came with me for a few months. Then she had to go back to take care of the family, so I had to take care of everything by myself. At 15 years old, having to walk alone on a path full of glory and temptation, I always told myself not to give up. Luckily, over the past few years, despite facing this and that, I did not give up or surrender.
I feel very happy to be taught, accompanied and supported by teacher Anh Tho and my brothers and sisters. I am always grateful and cherish those things.
It seems that the journey Ha Quynh Nhu has gone through to affirm herself as an independent name… is very smooth?
- I think that each person will have a different journey in their career and in life. Maybe the journey for one person is difficult but for another it is happy. For me, the journey to rise from a child singer to a folk singer while still in university has both tears and smiles, both hardship and glory. I feel happy because thanks to those challenges, I am who I am today. The important thing is that the difficulties on that journey did not make me give up but gave me more motivation to become the best version of myself.

That's why people say Ha Quynh Nhu is old before her age, mature beyond her age?
- It's true that many people say I'm old before my age, but some people also say I'm still childish. Personally, I feel that I have more life experience and more relationships because I've been exposed to the arts. However, in many other ways, I'm still far behind my peers.
Actually, I still think I’m the same innocent, carefree, and naive girl… a little bit more stylized like before. It’s just that as I get older and experience more… I’ve become a little more mature, but not too old.
Someone once said, Ha Quynh Nhu was a shy girl, studying with teacher Anh Tho - a singer associated with folk music but tried her hand at many genres of music, but Ha Quynh Nhu only limited herself to folk music?
- It's true that I feel a bit shy and lacking in confidence. In the past, I had the chance to try out more genres of music. For example, when I participated in The Voice Kids, there was only one round where I could showcase my folk talent, the rest of the time I was forced to sing other genres of music. But now, my voice has changed a lot because I'm no longer a "child's voice" but have matured physiologically, so I can't sing in my real voice or mixed voice like I used to.

Other genres of music require singing in real voice and mixed voice mainly, while folk music requires singing in falsetto more. Now, when studying at the Vietnam National Academy of Music, the training program is mainly operatic vocal techniques, so I am not confident enough to try other genres of music. But I am sure that in the future, I will try my hand at other genres of music.
Singer Anh Tho is famous for having a lot of knowledge and experience in music and music teaching, but she is also very meticulous and perfectionist. How does Ha Quynh Nhu feel studying with Ms. Anh Tho?
- I don't know about you guys and girls, but I'm lucky that I rarely get scolded by her. Maybe because I'm still so small and fragile, so she doesn't scold me. In the first days of studying with her, when I sang badly, she would scold me lovingly: "Hey, is this singing or meowing?". But now, I see a very clear change in my technique and singing voice. I'm always grateful to her because thanks to her, my singing has improved significantly every day. Now, when I compare the song I sing this year with the song I sang last year, there is a clear difference.
It is true that Ms. Anh Tho is a perfectionist. When teaching her students, she points out every small mistake, teaches every detail… and those things have helped me perform the song better.

What personality traits does singer Anh Tho have that Ha Quynh Nhu feels influenced by?
- There are many things I have to learn from Ms. Anh Tho. Firstly, she is meticulous and perfectionist in her work. Maybe I am still young and inexperienced, so sometimes I am still careless and careless... but since studying with her, I have become more meticulous. Secondly, she is a great artist but lives a very simple life, is sociable, cheerful and loves her students. She never accepts gifts from her students. For example, if you give her a lovely, pretty gift that you made yourself, she will accept it, but she will not accept expensive gifts. I really respect her for that.
She is also a very easy-going person, treating her students as her own children. She often tells stories to her students and from those stories we can learn some lessons. She has almost no distance with her students.
What about confidence when standing in front of an audience or facing life's challenges?
- I certainly will never learn her confidence. Ms. Anh Tho is confident at all times, in all places, and even in the way she performs a song. As for me, I am still a shy and timid person by nature, so no matter how hard I try, I can’t. I don’t know if I can be less shy in the future, but it is true that my teacher’s confidence is something I really want to learn and have.

Singer Anh Tho confided that she considers Ha Quynh Nhu as her next generation of students in developing folk music and firmly maintaining its position. What does Ha Quynh Nhu think about this?
- I feel honored to be mentioned by her name and have expectations in an interview in Dan Viet newspaper. However, I also feel pressured because to reach the position that Ms. Anh Tho has now is not easy. I think, to be as she expected, I have to try harder. I don't know if I can do a part like her in the future, but I will definitely keep trying and not let her down.
Are there any memorable memories between the two of you when performing together?
- There was a very happy memory when the two of us performed in Binh Phuoc. The distance from the resting place to the performance location was very far and there was no tram, so it was very difficult to walk. The two of us had to ask a guy to take us both on a motorbike. After finishing the program in Binh Phuoc, we arrived in Ho Chi Minh City quite late and I had not booked a hotel room in advance, so she called us to stay in the same room with her. We are the G generation, so we are still used to "sleeping during the day and working at night". Early in the morning, I was fast asleep when she had to return to Hanoi because of a show there. Before returning, she covered me with a blanket, turned down the air conditioner for me, and then gently left. When I woke up, she had already returned to Hanoi.
Thanks Ha Quynh Nhu for sharing the information!
