At the Tay Ho Half Marathon 2024 organized by the People's Committee of Tay Ho District (Hanoi) in coordination with sponsors on the morning of April 14, a young man suddenly collapsed just 100m from the finish line.
After the incident, the young man was given emergency medical treatment and taken to Hanoi Heart Hospital, Branch 2, for emergency treatment, and then transferred to Bach Mai Hospital for treatment.
Informing Tuoi Tre Online on the afternoon of April 15 about the health status of the above male athlete, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khuyen - Chairman of Tay Ho District People's Committee, the organizing unit - said that this person is still being monitored at Bach Mai Hospital, and is in very weak condition.
"The doctor's prognosis is bad, it's hard to survive. Now we've determined that while there's life, there's hope. In sports, sometimes luck is unavoidable," said Mr. Khuyen.
According to the preliminary report, the male patient was born in 1990. At around 5:55 a.m. on April 14, the patient collapsed on the running track, about 100 meters from the finish line.
After first aid, at 6:25 a.m., the patient was transferred by ambulance and emergency team to Hanoi Heart Hospital, branch 2.
Here, the patient received active resuscitation measures from the emergency department, online consultation with Bach Mai Hospital, and direct support from the emergency team from Bach Mai Hospital.
The patient was placed on ECMO and transferred to Bach Mai around 12 noon on April 14.
Road closure for 4 hours, people complain, what does the district say?
To serve the race, on April 14, the People's Committee of Tay Ho district banned some roads for 4 hours, from 4:15 to 8:00 a.m., including Thanh Nien Street, one of the important roads in Hanoi.
The long-term road closure has caused many people to complain because it causes traffic jams and affects the travel routes of many people.
Regarding this, speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , the leader of Tay Ho District People's Committee said that the district did not ban all roads that the running route passes through within 4 hours, but banned each section.
"There are some sections that have to be banned for 4 hours, but it only takes so many days and months for a race to take place. Since Tay Ho district has been chosen to host it, we have to prepare carefully," he added.
