According to the Plan for organizing the 4th Congress of Ethnic Minorities at District and Provincial Levels in 2024, which has just been issued by the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen Province. Before June 30, 2024, district-level units including Dinh Hoa, Vo Nhai, Dong Hy, Dai Tu, Phu Luong, Phu Binh, Thai Nguyen City and Pho Yen City will complete the congress. Dong Hy District was chosen as the district-level congress model, expected before May 15, 2024.
The provincial congress is expected to be held in October 2024 with no more than 333 delegates, including no more than 250 official delegates.
Song Cong City will not hold a district-level congress due to the lack of 5,000 ethnic minorities living in the area. Instead, the locality will hold a joint conference between the Chairman of the City People's Committee, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, departments, branches, and organizations of the city, and representatives of the leaders of wards and communes where ethnic minorities live. Through this, delegates will also be selected to attend the provincial congress and recommendations for rewards will be made according to the guidance of the Provincial Congress Steering Committee.
According to statistics, Thai Nguyen province has nearly 1.3 million people with 51 ethnic groups living together, of which 8 ethnic groups are the majority: Kinh, Tay, Nung, San Diu, Mong, San Chay, Dao and Hoa. Ethnic minorities account for nearly 30% of the province's population, living mainly in 5 mountainous and highland districts: Dinh Hoa, Vo Nhai, Phu Luong, Dong Hy, Dai Tu.
In order to improve people's lives, Thai Nguyen is developing community tourism models associated with ethnic minorities such as: Thai Hai Ethnic Ecological Stilt House Village Conservation Area (Thinh Duc Commune, Thai Nguyen City), Quyen Ethnic Cultural Village (Diem Mac Commune, Dinh Hoa District), Mo Ga Hamlet (Phu Thuong Commune, Vo Nhai), Tan Cuong Commune (Thai Nguyen City), Ghenh Che Lake (Song Cong City) and Tan Son Hamlet (La Bang Commune, Dai Tu District).
