AFF Cup is exciting
On December 20, the final round of Group A of the 2024 AFF Cup will take place with two matches at the same time between Thailand and Cambodia, and Malaysia and Singapore. With Thailand having secured a ticket to the semi-finals early, the race between the three teams Singapore (6 points), Malaysia (4 points), and Cambodia (4 points) for the remaining ticket is very intense.
Defending champion Thailand asserted its strength in the 2024 AFF Cup by winning all 4 group stage matches.
The Malaysian team had to beat Singapore, so they went all out when they had the advantage of playing at home. Meanwhile, a draw would almost certainly secure a ticket to the next round, so the Singapore players played more easily. The Malaysian players attacked overwhelmingly, creating many opportunities but could not score against the Singapore goalkeeper. Therefore, the Malaysian team only got 1 point, sadly watching Singapore win the remaining ticket in Group A to the semi-finals of the AFF Cup 2024.
In the remaining match, the Cambodian team had to beat Thailand by as much as possible and hoped that Malaysia would beat Singapore in the remaining match. The Cambodian players played impressively, scoring the opening goal in the 32nd minute, but just 1 minute later, the defending champion Thailand equalized the score 1-1. In the 84th minute, the Thai 'war elephants' extinguished Cambodia's hopes with a goal that increased the gap to 3-1. The Cambodian players' efforts only helped them narrow the gap to 2-3.
With this victory, the Thai team ended the group stage with a perfect record of 4 wins, reaching 12 absolute points, entering the semi-finals as the top of group A. The remaining ticket in this group belongs to Singapore (7 points).
